Flying Clubs or a Share in a plane?

    Hi all,
I have just completed my JAA PPL in the states, I would like to continue flying in Ireland and keep current, (with the hope one day of maybe continuing on to do my CPL). I do understand that I would need some lessons in order to get familiar with the Irish weather, grass strips, radio procedures, etc.

I like to keep it cheap as possible, can anyone recommend a good club or school? Or would it be a better option to look into buying a share in a plane?, whats the pros and cons of that?

    any info is much appreciated..:)

It depends where your going to be living in Ireland.if your heading west theres The Connaught Aeroclub(based at Knock,EIKN).The Galway flying club based at Galway airport, and theres also a flying club at Sligo airport. If your heading east any of the clubs based at Weston are grand. Also,if you visit www.flyinginireland.com theres a section where people put up about buying shares in aircraft etc etc.Be sure to get yourself a copy of KevinGlynns VFR guide!!

Contact Kevin directly, he has a limited amount for sale. There's a thread on FlyinginIreland.com's For Sale section with his email address.

I would have said it tf you buy a share you'll end up paying far more, than being in a flying club. Theres always unexpected repairs, maintance, hangar fees, then it may not be not available when you want it. Anyone I know with a share, says its more expensive.

Thanks for the replies everyone and for the pm yaeger. Some great info there.
I am living in the wee county, Louth. Joining a club seems to be the the best option, for both keeping cost down and learning from fellow club members. just have to pick one now..:)
