Spyware issues.

Hi lads, just looking for a general opinion on handling spyware. I usually have client PCs on my sites with AV software and firewall turned on and this works well. They generally dont get viruses, some spyware (toolbars that sort of sh1te), but nothing debilitating.

However recently a couple of XP PCs have been picking up spyware which is partially detected by AV but not properly removed. I can boot to safe mode, and manually remove it, but then a few weeks after the same thing again.

Now I cant block this guys internet access, and putting in a proxy is not an option. I have considered putting anti-spyware on his pc, but I have found them to be hit and miss in the past. Any ideas how I can stop these things reinfecting?

I'd say istall SpyBot, available at http://www.safer-networking.org/ I have found it great to remove spyware ansd to protect machines from further infection

to be honest I have them all using Firefox not sure if the scripts are enbaled, but since my own Firefox at home has become unstable (even after two reinstalls) I'm thinking of suggesting Chrome in the future.

User Education ... "please dont go to the porn sites" ?

I would recommend Threatfire. It makes the computer a bit slow but its great in protecting your system.

They shouldn't be running as admin. If not an admin, can't write to the reg or system areas.
