An Post & Delivering to apartments

I was to buy something off Amazon (approx 12" x 12" x 8""), and it's my first time having anything bigger than envelope size delivered to my apartment.
assuming it's delivered by AnPost will they actually attempt delivery, or just do the thing with the card?
I'd prefer the card as I won't always be there, and I'd hate to think either this time, or when buying off a private seller in future that they might make a few attempts at delivery and then return it to the seller

    It depends on the postman.
In my last apt, the postie never attempted to deliver any package bigger than a dvd. (In one instance, there were two dvds from play.com, and someone had put an elastic band around them. He didn't bring them!)

In my current one, the postie brings the packages, and has the approach of "i've started so I'll finish". He will wedge them into the box if at all possible, or failing that, will dump them in the common hallway.

They will only attempt to deliver once, and then leave you a notice to collect it. You'll then have 3 - 5 days to get to the depot to collect it before they send it back.

when i lived in blackrock in mews apartments the postman would deliver a parcel note and they would be left for collection in the local post office.
