    Hi
Is it possible to get a card to receive RTE TV via satalite (without a subscription) like they can in the UK for UK chanells with a one off payment for the card. This is for someone that is in a place in Ireland that can't receive over the air?

No, not possible, Minimum Sky sub is required to get RTE on satellite.

Even if I can't get RTE anyother way?

Just barely picks up RTE1 nothing else.

No, even if you can't get it any other way, RTE is a sub channel on sky, have you tried the correct aerial for the area, what do others around use to get RTE?

They depend an a bounce for a local but we can't get this even...I do pay for a TV licence so I think I would be entiled to receive it via Sat.

How can UK people avail of a card.... I've herd that Irish people that laps the sky sub can get RTE on the out of date cards so why can't I get a card ( for a once off payment)?

No such scheme exists in the ROI like the Free to View card system that they have in the UK, that's just the way it is.

RTE is not free to air on satellite.

Your television licence does not entitle you to receive RTÉ. It is a licence for having a television tuner.

The terrestrial channels in the UK are all FTA on satellite now and do not require a card. RTÉ is only available through satellite with an active Sky subscription.

Where is she based, and what direction is the aerial pointed, or does she just have a small set of rabbit ears on her TV?

Also, how did she tune in to get RTE on her TV? Is it an old TV, a new one, what? Some of the older ones were great for being able to fine tune a weak signal, but some of the newer ones I've found don't seem to have this feature :(
