Avgas shortages at Weston

Can anyone give a reason for all the avgas shortages at Weston over the past couple of months? Several times I've turned up to fly, only to be told there's no fuel again. What is going on?

the airport cannot supply the schools with fuel, some schools are getting their own supply from external sources.

Thanks, but why is this? The schools make up the vast majority of their business, but nobody I know has been given a proper reason.

Dare I say it but it perhaps could be the reason why some garages are regularly out of motor fuel -due to payment problems in the past they can only get supplies on a C.O.D. basis ?

That's what I've heard - it's all cash. Luckily some schools (like eirecopter) have their own supplies.

Kilrush is a short hop from Weston and usually have a ready supply if your looking for alternatives. A hell of a lot cheaper aswell :D

I would imagine the Flying School business has been hit exceptionally hard in the downturn , it follows that fuel suppliers can see this and are very nervous about credit . The obvious problem is that as fuel shortages increase more folks will give up and essentially a vicious circle is formed ?

And now the problem is with Jet A1, with none available for the past several weeks, and for the next two also.
    EIWT - WESTON
+ JET A1 FUEL NOT AVBL
    FROM: 01 OCT 2010 16:06 TO: 15 OCT 2010 17:30 A1345/10

WTF is going on with that place?????

Anyone care to place a bet on a receiver being appointed to Weston before Christmas ?

I've been hearing rumours of similar, they've basically fired everyone apart from ATC up there. I'm surprised it has lasted this long tbh.

That doesn't sound good. But it's speculation really. I don't think we'll lose the airport even if it went into receivership. There might be scaling back of operations. Maybe even a return to the more relaxed Weston of old.

It certainly isn't worth anything as building land anymore so selling for development won't happen. There is no reason for the flying schools to go if the airport facility itself was cut back.

The only real risk is that the local council would try and use this opportunity to close it. They have a vindictive attitude towards it for some time.

However even if it's true. I know of at least two people who would love to get their hands on it. It would be a proper GA field if either succeeded and I know for sure one would soon have the council eating out of his hand.

But we are speculating. In reality it may simply be a battening down of the hatches in a recession. I doubt if it will be NAMA'd.

not aware of anyone being fired there; manager, clerical, security, catering, ground staff, caretaker all still there as of yesterday.
