Will be spending 500euro between new espresso machine and grinder in the coming months

At the moment have a very cheap espresso machine and a blade grinder and in the next few months will be upgrading.

After looking around online I reckon my budget of 500euro will get me something decent.

Can anyone give recommendations on a good espresso machine and a burr grinder as well. Maybe a combo?

    thanks

I think this (Gaggia classic with mdf grinder) gives excellent, consistent quality for the price. I'm new to this forum though and this is the first and only espresso machine I've ever bought. I'm sure the regulars will have other good suggestions for you.

We have a Nespresso which is fantastic. Guaranteed consistent coffee every time but capsules for the machine are expensive approx €0.37 each. Quick and easy to operate.

    +1 for the Gaggia, [snipped].

Coffee Angel have some grinders for around the 100 euro mark.

cheers looks good. Will consider it. Any other suggestions?

Watch adverts.ie and ebay, stuff is always coming up.
I got my Gaggia Baby Class on ebay for E105 delivered and it was barely used.

www, gaggia.ie based in Citywest have a few options for you. Not as cheap as you might get online maybe but that's not the only factor when buying.

oddly I rang them today before seeing this post and they were very helpful. It isnt that much more expensive either. Plus they give you a demo etc..
Sounds like the gaggia classic is the one I need and an MDF grinder so all in all about 520euro, which is about what I wanted to spend

Never dealt with them but that looks like a great price. I paid that for my Classic on it's own 4 years ago.

Is it just me or does that website look "wrong"? It might well be totally legit and honest but the forum is full of uncleared spam, a email complaint refers to AOL and it's more Oirish than Irish.
Personally I'd pay the difference for peace of mind (and the bit of training)

It doeslook a little old alright. There is a phone number and address at the bottom of the page - might be worth giving them a bell. At the end of the day you should be protected if you pay by credit card.

Anyone ever purchased a re-conditioned Gaggia? Apparently you can order them and pick them up from the Outlet One store outside Lisburn.

Though actually looking at the website, postage seems ok

I found that website a few months ago when I was considering purchasing a Silvia. It's run by an Italian lady in Galway. She was allowing me to pick up from Galway and pay cash there, as I didn't trust the site. She seemed legitimate.

Ok then... is this worth driving to galway for?

hmmm, if you open espressocoffeeshop.com and coffeegod.ie you might be surprised at the similarities right down to the free wood fire roasted beans.

That said I got my Silvia from espressocoffeeshop last year without issue.

    Be careful out there. :D
