Three German planes have just landed at Weston, carrying several passengers and luggage. One of them, G-EGWZ Gyroflug SC-01B-160, did a few noisy circuits before landing.

The other two were Mooney M20J D-EKGL and D-EVAD (unknown).

They are parked on the east grass parking area so are easily visible from the road if you want to pop up to have a look.

Thanks Su, think I'll head over that way this evening.

Nice! Always loved the Mooney since we had one based down west years ago(EI-CIK),based at Galway first and later Knock.

No bother, thanks for the photos. You didn't happen to get the three passengers by any chance did you?! :D

By the way, the second plane's a weird one, that's actually the back of it that's pointing towards you! It has its elevator on the nose.

Yeah, I thought it was a Rutan Vari-Eze which is a similar design with the canard wing. I've only ever seen one once over in Portimao (LPPM) Portugal.

These two have just flown over the southern coast of Dublin Bay headed ESE in single file/line astern formation.

The Mooney belongs to Fliegergruppe Leutkirch, near Friedrichshafen, Germany. All three planes were recently photographed in Jersey, on May 23rd, so obviously doing a nice trip of northwestern Europe, lucky buggers.

I think the Rutan was the long ez, basically a larger version of the vari ez. Very nice looking aircraft.

    Hi,

    The canard D-EGWZ was a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyroflug_Speed_Canard

Very similar to the Long Eze , but not actually one.

I have ALWAYS loved Rutan's aircraft , indeed one of the high points I have is seeing Voyager in the Smithsonion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutan_Voyager

I always fancied building a Vari EZE or Long EZE , you can get kits.

The float Cessna is quite a regular visitor I think , I have seen it there a few times , always interesting to see !

As the height of the water can rise or fall by a couple of feet, doing so may be pretty dangerous?

I sent off an email to the Leutkirch Fliegergruppe and got a response from one of the pilots that visited. He said they flew Leutkirch-Jersey-Kerry-Weston-Reims-Leutkirch. 12 hours total flying.

They had a brake problem with the Gyroflug when they landed in Weston, but managed to fix it. He also said there was "an enthusiastic photographer behind the fence pointing his lense at us".....that must have been you Andrew, take a bow!

Ta Su, if said photographer was standing on the bonnet of his car to shoot over the fence, then it was me:D
On the Weston thing, I see they (who? who?) have blocked off access along the fence to the hill behind the apron, how bloody small minded and petty are they? We hardly pose a security risk by climbing the hill to photo aircraft?:mad::mad:

Yeah I noticed that yesterday, it's a pity alright, it was a nice little area. Maybe they had complaints from the steel yard behind? Not sure why, but you know what some people are like, maybe their privacy was being invaded...

And the funny thing is, you can still scramble up the hill behind the little sub station thing but it is steep!

Has anybody any info on that accident in Kerry last Thursday in which a German plane landed wheels up? They say it was belonging to an aero club from the Munich area, and had arrived from Guernsey. This would be a similar route to that taken by the Leutkirch Group above?

I wonder is there any connection.

I saw that , I must admit I was wondering the same thing

    everyone was ok I think....
