Sky Plus - Extra Dish ?!

    Hi All,

I moved house last week and we had our own Sky dish and Sky Plus box in the house. We moved into a duplex apartment and there is a communal dish for every apartment. When we moved in there was a Sky Plus box there from the previous renter. We brought our own Sky Plus box and set it up and all the channels are working perfect. The only thing is the recording isn't working properly, you need to have it on the channel you are going to record the programme, i.e Home and Away is on RTE2 at 1.25 so before I leave in the morning I need to make sure I have left it on RTE2 so it will record (Hope that makes sense!) So I called someone in to see if they could fix it, I just assumed it needed to be programmed in the new house or something. But apparently we need another cable going from the Sky Plus Box to a seperate dish to get the full Sky Plus options. That wouldn't be a problem only that in our contact it says under no circumstances are we to put up a Sky dish (As there is one there for everyone to use) i.e because it will look odd sticking out the side of the apartment and the landlord does not want this. As I said before there was a Sky plus box in the apartment when we moved in so the previous renter obviously had Sky Plus and there was no other dish, is this due to him/her having Sky Plus JUST to rewind/fast forward and not record or is there actually another way around it?! The guy we got in to have a look said its not a big job at all to get the cable from the box to a new dish (which we could put out on our balcony kind of hidden away) Since he's come to have a look I have noticed a lot of other apartments and duplexes have extra dishes on their balconies kind of hidden away. Should I get a second opinion from someone?! I'm a bit frustated and just want this fixed as soon as possible without angering anyone i.e the landlord!!! Any advice would be appreciated!!! :)

For sky plus to work properly (watch one channel and record another, live pause etc.) you need 2 feeds from the dish to the box,

I think there is a setting you can change in the sky menu to tell the box there is only one feed. this will let the box change to the correct channel to record something.

Sounds like only one of the leads is connected to the dish, or one of the inputs on the box is broken or something.

A stacker destacker can be used to work sky + on just one cable but you'd still need two outputs from the LNB.

Are you using your own Sky+ box or the one left in the house?
Your card & box need to be used together - or phone Sky to change the other box over to your card.
