New Business V Tradesman

    Hello all,

Recently I've diversified with the misses into a beauty salon / day spa. In the course of getting the premises kitted out we got some electrician to do some work. Long story short he shafted us and agreed to pay 500 from 750 which was paid upfront to buy kit. Generally I wouldn't fork over before but I had used this guy before and he seemed legit.

As a business owner I don't need the hassle of chasing this guy but he's ignored me and the solicitor. I can't bring him to small claims court, only the district court.

    Question for ye guys:

1 - I'm confident I'll get judgement against him. If he fails to pay should I stick him in Stubbs Gazette or just persue the debt. Sticking him in dubs will I would think screw him over, affect his rating and hopefully prevent him from messing someone else over.

2 - Any similar experiences with collecting from default tradesmen?

I have to say its disappointing that people still engage in this type of activity. We're all trying to get off our asses as a country, create some employment and get some cash flowing. People like this really set the country back yet they are the very ones complaining things aren't as before. Not all tradesmen are bad, by no means. I got some great pricing and service from others.

If you know the guy i'd be tempted to drop round and ask him what's the story?
You could take him to the small claims court, you don't really need a solicitor for such a small amount.

Small claims don't handle these types of disputes unfortunately.

I've already attempted to get cash from him for over 6 weeks, at this stage calling around is not the way forward.

You cannot stick him in stubbs gazette. You have to take him to court, get a judgement against him, then he will be entered in stubbs.
It will cost you 500-1000 to do this.

You just have to harass them until they pay up.

This is not a debt he owes you, you paid him and he failed to provide the service. So you can use the small claims court.

My claim does not fall under any of a/b/c here: https://smallclaims.courts.ie/esmallclaims/claim/Main?page=home&Language=English
