Just for fun, what are peoples favourite studio logos/opening sequence titles?

For me Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox just scream "you're at the movies!" when I see something opening with them, I love when they mess around with them as well, Warners logo in particular.

I'm at work at the mo so cant post video examples, will do later, but some of my favourites with Warner are The Matrix trilogy, the green reworking of the logo and Don Davis's brilliant score just make them so atmospheric. 300, with the sepia toned look and the brilliantly sly reworking of "As time goes by" in Persian pipes on the soundtrack. The Batman movies, returns having snow in the background and Forever morphing the Warner shield into the Bat symbol.

20th Century Fox, with Alien 3, the brilliant, brilliant way the Fox fanfare is reworked so that the final note gets higher and higher until it reaches a really creepy crescendo, I snuck in to see Alien 3 when i was 13 and this really creeped me out.

Edward Scissorhands, great little change with the logo being made of ice and snow in the background.

Universal, for Land of the Dead using the classic logo of the biplane spinning around the globe. and with Waterworld, zooming in on the earth as it slowly fills with water and working it into the opening shot of the movie, brilliant.

I loved the Warner Bros opening for Superman Returns with "When time goes by"...ending with the Superman theme. That was a nice, subtle one.

Ha I totally forgot about that one.

I always liked the Morgan Creek logo with the fanfare from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves playing over it.

Another memorable one from Raiders of the Lost Ark,
The Paramount logo disolves into a similar mountain. ;)

I always liked the United Artists sequence from the 70s - A Transamerica Company. The way the two elements merged was slick and it was appropriatly understated for the company that put quality before bells and whistles hype

I like the Warner Brothers logo the best. In particular the way I like the way they let it be adapted in its appearance in order to fit the look of what particular movie is about to begin.

That said tho, nothing beats the 20th Century Fox at the start of Star Wars. I love the way the fanfare bleeds perfectly into the Lucasfilm fanfare before the film proper starts.
For years I actually thought the two pieces were one jingle and was very surprised the first time I saw a (non SW) Fox movie and the music "apparently" cut off half-way thru. :)

The 20th Century Fox fanfare came in two flavours, the 10 second version (I'm guessing that was for tv productions) and the full fat 21 second version with the extra flourish

Ah! That would explain a lot. I always had thought the second part was written for Lucasfilm and intended to marry into the original fanfare.

BTW, I'm of course basing it on this clip

Alien 3, suits the tone of the franchise perfectly!

Loved this other variation of United Artists logo, very James Bond-ish

And nothing reminds me of 80's movies more than this:

I love the beginning of Madagascar where Dreamworks intro ties in with the penguins.

I automatically associate that with the GoldenEye gun barrel intro into Bond running across the dam with Ace Ventura diving off the side. It doesn't work on any other film for me.

And it's a let down when there's no unique version of the DreamWorks logo used in their films. ;)

Love the Universal Logo transition into the Earth That Was of Serenity:

    (0:26: it's sped up, couldn't find a proper copy)

Do love the Star Wars one.

    And Marvel:

    Also like the Matrix titles:

And the opening titles to Sherlock Holmes, in the cobblestones.

+1 Definatly, it just has to be accompanied by popcorn

Ive always loved the Paramount one at the start of School of Rock. The stars flying through the clouds and the awesome guitar riff comes in :)

The clips wins this thread. Seeing this in the cinema for the new Star Wars films was the best part of the new trilogy. Talk about shivers.

Shame about the films themselves, with the possible exception of the last one.

Miramax was always my favourite, especially the older one (RIP):(
