Are PAVRs now being carried out in Irish hospitals? I found one news article which mentioned that it had been done here for the first time in the Blackrock Clinic in Nov 2008.

I was at the Connolly Hospital study day at the weekend. One of the Mater cardiologists gave a presentation on percutaneous AVRs. Apparently the company who provide these percutaneous valves are limiting the centres that are doing them. This is in order to get some level of experience/excellence in a few centres, rather than everybody having a go (as used to happen with cardiac surgery in Ireland). The impression that I got, was that it was for sicker patients with more medical problems, who wouldn't tolerate the open procedure. As far as I am aware the procedure is being done by Dr.Sugrue in the Mater and somebody in Blackrock clinic. Can't remember SJH being mentioned.
