Not ideal, but should be no bother. as you say, the back packing will be cross training and you might get the chance to swim or something during the 3 weeks also.

What plan are you using? a lot of plans have step back weeks in them. ideally you would finish a tough week right before you go back packing and pick the plan back up 3 weeks later on a step back week to ease back into it. post your plan and I could comment further.

I more or less did what you are planning last year (i.e. start the programme early to compensate for holidays). Adjust your programme so that when you come back you are doing a 'drop back' week because to land back into high mileage you could injure yourself (as I did). Otherwise try to get a few small runs in when you're away- you will get some time and opportunity even if it is only to go out for half an hour. That should keep you ticking over without spoiling your holiday.
If you are young and fit it should be no bother to you. Good luck

Just looking at that, week 8 is a peak week (longest LSR yet ) and week 9 is a drop off week (less mileage than the week before). If I were you I would do week 9 when you come back and then follow it with week 8 then week 10.

I had a similar issue with training for Cork in 2 weeks as I had to take 3 weeks off. Ideally you should have started last week and have an easy week after you come back from your holidays to get back into the schedule. But seeing as you are back-packing its not like you'll be sitting on the couch for 3 weeks so that should help.
Any chance you could go for a few runs on holiday to keep things ticking over as this would help alot?

I haven't done a backpacking holiday, but is there any reason you couldn't run during the three week break? I mean you wont be travelling the whole time, right? You'll go from city to town to resort, but stay a couple of days, or overnight there? It may be quite hot (depending on where you are going) so just plan for this by running shorter and easier, and bringing some water.

I find the best way to get to know and really explore a place is to go for a run. If you have a GPS watch it's hard to get lost too (just remember to save your starting point, so you can get a compass point back to the start). Enjoy the training and the holiday.

Yes, I ran the half last year and it was good preparation. I've signed up for the 10 and half this year.

Definitely, the half in particular will be a relatively good indicator of how your training is progressing.
