    Breaking News Eircom

Ten people were injured, including some with broken bones, when a flight from London to Los Angeles hit severe turbulence, officials said today.

United Airlines spokeswoman Sarah Massier said United Flight 935 reported severe turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean and was diverted to Montreal, Canada.

The airline said nine passengers and one crew member were treated. None of the injuries was considered to be life-threatening.

The Boeing 777 aircraft was taken out of service and inspected for possible damage.

Ms Massier said another plane was sent from Chicago to Montreal to take the passengers and crew to Los Angeles.

The plane landed in Los Angeles at around 10pm (5am Irish Time), about nine hours later than originally scheduled.

i have flown in turbulence on the way to Praque it was fairly bad for the pax that didnt like it,one lad that was travelling with us had his hands more or less glued to the arm rests i told my mate that the capt was taking the back roads:D.

even on a normal flight were people can take their seat belt off i allways wear mine due to C.A.T(clear air turbulence) even in the cruise or SOP required us to wear the lap belt rather than the full 5 point harness.

I flew in pretty bad turbulence somewhere over the Nebraska and Iowa in the US once on a flight from Vegas to New York, there was some very bad weather in the area and you could see lightning flickering underneath us and it was quite rocky. Some passengers were quite frightened and an old lady sitting next to me started praying! I always wear my seatbelt too all the time except for going to the toilet which is rare enough unless on a long haul flight.

I wear it incase I'd get sucked out of the plane, ever since I saw Air Crash Investigation where that section of the plane gave way and a few passengers got sucked out but the pilot managed to land it safely with his passengers who were strapped in with their air masks on!

On a flight to Dubai recently we hit moderate-severe turbulence over Syria and Iraq. There was a 120kt branch of the sub-tropical jetstream in the area. It wasn't as bad as some peoples' experiences but it was the worst I have encountered. I had studied the SigWx charts before departing though so knew exactly when to expect it (just as they were about to serve brekkie!!!) We descended to FL290 for the remaining hour of the flight.

When flying up the east coast of spain as a child.. It was bad to the point that my mother who at that stage had been all over the world, now cant get on a short hop.. Ill never forget it. My biggest memory of it is of the rear galley basically crashing to the ground after several of the clips broke.. didnt stop until we landed.

I remember a flight home from the states a few years back. As soon as we headed out over the North Atlantic we hit unreal turbulence which kept up until we arrived back at the Irish coast. Most people looked like they were ready to throw up but i enjoyed a lot of it as i was sitting over the wing and it was amazing to watch the wing constantly flexing and absorbing the forces at work against it. Remarkable stuff.

Descending into Kiev a number of years ago on a KLM 737 we encountered some pretty bad turbelunce. The whole plane appeared to be buckling and and cabin crew had to sit on the floor. A senior hostess said it was the worst she had ever encountered so it must have been severe. Lots of nervous faces around including my own I must admit!

I was on an Aer Lingus flight into Heathrow in January a few years ago and we encountered very severe turbulence about ten minutes out. The trolley at the rear fell over and aircraft was very jumpy, as we approached Heathrow I was sitting on the left side and due to strong cross winds the runway was directly in front of me as I looked out the window, the pilot flew the aircraft into wind until the very last moment before he touched down to straighten up for the runway.

Exciting it was but would not like to have it happen again

A few years ago a friend of mine broke her arm while in the toilet when they suddenly hit turbulence.
