Might be worth checking the fuel filter maybe or it could be a problem with the injector pump or could even be water in your diesel. Take it to a mechanic for your own sake.

What a bizarre thing to say!

    a) What he described is a common problem on Turbo cars, usually a boost leak, stuck wastegate, f_cked FPR etc
    b) Since when is a 2.9litre diesel "a mans car"?

OP: Get the codes read and limit the driving on it if possible, Limp Mode is there to Limp to the garage for repairs..

I had a similar enough problem to that. Turned out i had a cracked manifold. Was leaking air as i accelerated. Could also be something completely different !

did it only loose boost sometimes or was it a constant prob and did it through up any faults?

Didn't notice it on city driving but as soon as you hit the motorway you would notice it. Acceleration was gone. Was being overtaken in a climbing lane by a punto. No warning lights or faults displayed. Burning alot of oil though, back of the car was black. You could feel the air escaping if you put your hand over the engine and reved.

Subaru my friend is whats called a littleboy racers car AKA skangermobile ,BMW on the other hand (esp. 530d 2.9) would be classed as mans car due to engine size ,performance and generally being AKA "The Ultimate Driving Machine" with a reputation of been classy .

What have you been smoking today?

A Subaru (bearing in mind that's the brand, and not a specific car) a 'skankermobile'.
So, are Foresters and Outbacks skangermobiles? Or the current model Legacy's?

A 530D a mans car because of it's engine size? While I think it's a great engine, I hardly think it screams masculinity. My mother drives a 535D for god sake. :P

And ultimate driving machine? It's not even at the top tier of BMW 5 series diesels...
Maybe you just like the sound of a diesel engine... not me though...

(Edit: Probably shouldn't reply considering the post above! :))

Cant beat that burble sound from the Scooby engine though!

Much perfer it to the clatter diesel sound even though I drive one!

ok so i ASSumed it was a a 98 subaru impreza WRC.

Yes mature ladies do drive BMW's as they can turn from been a nice comfortable easy going big car to a nasty mean machine in seconds .

Semi related question to this. Ill post here rather than start a new thread.

If I was looking at this 530d what are the common issues/faults to look for? It seems cheaper than any other auto diesel 5 series ive seen.

I also know that this particular one was used as a taxi for a while.

    6 owners !!

Edit: - There are recent threads on what to look for on these. Search 530d. At 100k which is what it has you should contemplate replacing the cooling system.
Mileage seems low for a previous taxi.
