No Im going with this month as it is airing on radio stations and websites. For the record this is the link for two songs. This site linked below as a good a reason why IMRO should reconsider their positon. IMO the songs are being promoted here and there should be some common sense applied.

May look to put one in for may and one for June or run them as two different songs. Suburbs definitely growing on me. Btw official release date is August for the sinlge. Am thinking of putting the songs up together just to see how they poll against each other.

I was gonna nominate Sleigh Bells too. I'm competely in love with that band lately. So a definite +1 for Sleigh Bells!

I was thinking the same thing.
They'll probably run away with it just by virtue of the fact that it's Arcade Fire (one of my absolute favorite bands ever btw but I still want Sleigh Bells to win!)

In that case can hold off on Arcade Fire until single is released which I think is August according to interview on NPR . Of course I would still vote for Sleigh bells over Arcade fire songs if they were put up now.

Okay folks poll is up. A bit early but events elsewhere on here have forced my hand a bit. Will be my last poll so anyone free to put up next poll after this. Top three if at all possible.
    I went for
    1. Tell em- Sleighbells
    2. Suburbs-Arcade Fire
    3. Laredo- Band of Horses.
Put up the two arcade fire songs just to find out which is more popular. NPR as a matter of interest held poll with 57 per cent voting for Suburbs.

Anyways goodbye and all the best for the future. Have enjoyed it on here but time to move on.

'Events elsewhere' do not change things here.

Poll closed until the week's nomination period is finished.

I'm putting Divine Comedy's 'At The Indie Disco' in for this one.

Sorry to see you leaving SOTS.
    Best of luck.

I'm gonna nominate Teenage Fanclub - Baby Lee

Is there still time to nominate another? The new Ham Sandwich song definitely deserves to be in there, it's great: http://www.state.ie/2010/05/mp3/ham-sandwich-the-naturist/

    Poll reopened.

Apologies to those that have voted already but I've changed the poll to one vote per user so you'll need to revote.

Absolutely love At the Indie Disco - funny, warm, melodic. And Hannon's performance of it on Phantom was fairly hilarious as well :p

Strong line up again this month. It has to be Band of Horses again for me though.. Hopefully they'll get more than one vote this month. They're playing in The Tripod tonight too. I'd just love to be there. This is fairly good quality video of 'Laredo', great track too..

How the f*ck did he rack up almost 11,000 posts in a year and yet know so little about so many things?

Voted for At The Indie Disco as it puts a smile on my face - though i'm sure it'll get annoying after a while. None of the other tracks do that much for me, apart from Joanna Newsom, which is a few months old anyway.

I'm trying to figure out how a song qualifies for a song of the month poll.. Surely it would have to have been released within the last month.

Example: XX - Crystalised. That was released last year!
Another: Laura Marling - Devils Spoke.. the album and single were both released in March..

I just think a song should have to be from an album released in May..there are plenty of songs to choose from - no need to be picking songs from last year..

The now departed Spiritoftheseventies played fast and loose with the rules when picking tracks for Song of the Month, which was a thread idea he came up with himself I think.

Anyone willing to take over the mantle from him for next month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

No. Any song that gets voted Alternative/Indie song of the month instantly loses indie cred.

Think you are missing the point here. Thread was meant to promote music. Dont get bogged down in rules.

    Missed you. Welcome back!

You're missing the point here. The thread is not just meant to promote any old song. But as the title suggests new music. Any other misconceptions feel free to PM Jeff and myself.
