does one unpaid item less than 100 euro effect your credit rating in the future in terms of a mortgage etc?

Is this serious? How in the hell could eBay effect a mortgage application?

Not 100% sure I understand where you're coming from on this, but as far as I know if you get any sort of court judgement against you for an unpaid debt it will show up on your credit history. Even a very small amount unpaid could result in you being refused a mortgage - be careful.

Well it all depends who you're dealing with. I have a friend who 'neglected' to pay for a catalogue purchase some years back and it was flagged on a credit check by a lending agency.

What happened was my PayPal account was frozen because I paid for a hostel in China with it and I couldnt pay for an item but the seller sent it to me. I then tried to get my account restarted so I could pay but I refuse to send a multi national company like PayPal a copy of my passport AND a bank statement/Bill because they then have enough details to commit a serious id theft and they say it is stored in a secure place but I can imagine it been a hackers dream.

Anyway I got the item and told the seller my situatuion, obviously she wasnt happy and reported me to Ebay who have now added a unpaid item case to my account which is now closed. I offered to return the items but have not heard back from the seller with an address and can not get in contact with Ebay. Truthfully I never want to use Ebay or PayPal again, it was my first time using them have found it a horrible experience, with all this messing around and am ready to close my account but I still have the items which are unpaid for, the seller wont return my emails and all Ebay have is that I can appeal the unpaid item case but I have to show evidence I have paid for the items.

I don't really care but am sightly worried this may effect my future credit score and dont want a small bill of €70 to cause me trouble if i ever take out a mortgage or another loan so all advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Neither Paypal nor eBay can effect your credit rating, they are not financial institutions.

Paying for, or returning, the goods is between you and the seller, and she isn't returning your emails, then there's nothing you can do.

By the way, the verification required by Paypal is a standard security precaution.
