So I flew this morning to Dublin for the princely sum of €10 courtesy of Mick Leary & Co. :D and was surprised to see Kerry Airport have opened a new security screening area at Farranfore.

I flew through it three weeks ago and the old system was still in place but construction works were evident. It is much bigger and roomier than going through the old door which was fierce cramped and claustrophobic. Just a small bit of painting needed and the whole thing is finished.

Out of interest what were the loads like on the flight, was it full?

No, but I would say there was between 60 and eighty people on board, so less than half full, the plane is based at Farranfore overnight and it is the first flight out of Farranfore for the day. If Aer Arran were still doing the route I would say their planes would be full leading to under capacity on the route.

Passengers were a mix with tourists being the majority but there was also a few suits probably going to business meetings in Dublin etc. It is also popular as a feeder for other flights from Dublin and for myself once it was cheap there was no way I'd endure nearly 4 hours by train to Dublin when this is available.

€70 return by Irish rail and €20 to €25 return with Ryanair once you book early enough and use wirecard to avoid the €5 Credit card fee. Trains are nearly the last option to get to Dublin now with cheap flights and the M8 Motorway the train is also nearly the longest option!
