    Includes:

    • Cheezy Harrission Ford voiceover
    • Cut scene of Threepio ripping off the Danger sign (from a cut side-plot where the rebels unleashed captured beasts upon the Empire footsoldiers)
    • Prototype Empire title
This reeks of awesome. I would watch this film in the cinema in a heartbeat. Why don;t they make films like this anymore?

They do. It's just that it's a very rare occurance. Certainly not the prequel trilogy anyway. I'd compare maybe the new Batman series as one that emulates the spirit of the original Star Wars movies.

Yeah I'd maybe take The Mummy as a family-friendly, swashbuckling adventure that also utilises top-notch effects to tell a mythical story, much like A New Hope. (Too bad the Mummy sequels sucked big-time.)

Empire's modern equivalent would be IMHO Serenity. It's gritty, the characters are far more grey than the typical sci-fi archetypes, and while there was some semblance of a victory at the end, it came with a high cost and would cause the opposing force to come back at them with a vengeance in a sequel (I can dream).

Jedi was a well-intended but messily-executed sequel, with all the right pieces in all the wrong places. Fun in parts, drawn-out and redundant in others...much like Iron Man 2.

Certainly not the prequel trilogy anyway. I'd compare maybe the new Batman series as one that emulates the spirit of the original Star Wars movies.

The prequel trilogy seemed to show Lucas for what he was: a lover of technology and ideas, but unable to bring humanity to the fore. So where other writers/directors salvaged the OT, Lucas insisted on full control of the PT, so characters were neutered/restrained/frustrating/downright boring. Battle-scenes were busy, and workmanlike. Stories were underdeveloped, and politics made even more boring than their real-life counterpart. No swashes were buckled.

The new Batman trilogy is IMHO not like Star Wars at all. It's a modern take on the old-school one-man-army. It's a psychological fable on the battle between order and chaos. It's one big chess-game/mind-game, and it's designed to freak the living sh!t out of grown adults. Ignore the ratings; these are adult films.

I don't mean it's literally like Star Wars in terms of narrative or plot. Clearly it is not. I mean it's a crazy, exciting and dangerous world populated by characters who act like what's going on actually matters to them. There's an urgency and sincerity to everything that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. That feeling is the first thing one notes is missing from 90% of blockbusters (regardless of what age brack it is aimed at.)

Have you seen Serenity? It's a movie sequel to a short-lived TV show named Firefly, starring a cast of relative unknowns, and it kicks ass. Space is full of dangerous people, including the crew themselves.Highly recommend it.

Yeah I see what you're saying. My only gripe about the Batman Trilogy: Wayne is not likeable. I used to admire Bale as a method actor, but his character needs some levity. I actually prefer Mask of the Phantasm.
