Selling outside Ireland pointless thanks to An Post

I've been selling small (sub €10) items on ebay recently and thanks to An Post i'm in danger of losing money on items I have posted and possibly having my account nuked because people think i'm a scammer - all because An Post are so dreadful.

Here's an example: I posted items about 2.5 weeks ago. One item was posted to Dublin, the rest to the UK. So far, only one item has been delivered to the UK, and the small parcel I sent to Dublin took over a week to arrive! A WEEK! And I'm only 30 miles away from Dublin.

Add to this the fact it costs me 3 euro to post a tiny item like an eyeshadow to the UK and it's just not worth it thanks to these clowns

Ring up DHL there, see how much they charge :D An Post are fine in terms of delivery times imo.

get the bus to Newry and post from there?
The savings on the UK ones should easily cover the bus fare

OP did you not describe on your listing description how long postage will take?

It might put some of buying but at least they will know where they stand

i find An Post ok most of the time but they are expensive, i'll give you a laugh though. i fork out 12 euro for registered post to france and it doesn't arrive and because it is outside of ireland they can't find out who signed for it or trace it...............what's the point of paying for registered post then???????????

it's because of stuff like that that i state in my auctions that I won't post outside UK & Ireland

on the thing of going up north to post them, would royal mail need yuo to put a return address on stuff? could there be an issue if you're posting from the uk with an irish return address? but if I could do it it'd be very handy, 76p instead of €3 is a big diff

would you ever think it is royal mail at fault here? - An post only operate postal services in Ireland.

Royal Mail are unbeliveably inefficient at parcel delivery and the amount of items that go "missing" is phenomenal.

I send about 20 items a week though An Post and its rare that something is delayed.

Tip for posting - try typing the address, as An post use electronic readers for all theor post - a typed or very clearly written address will ensure speedy delivery. Royal Mail still do everything by hand (they really are stuck in 70's)

If the item is under 1" in thickness, it should only cost 1.35 - 1.90 depending on weight. Too many post offices charge the packet rate when the item is under the large envelope thickness.

Rather than queue up, get a load of 95c & 20c stamps. and put the postage on yourself. - Again, never once has a single item not been delivered and my items are fairly up at the limit in both size & weight. (maybe a wee but over:D)

My dad is a postman (no, no perks whatsoever) and I've had few problems posting abroad. Its the cost that concerns me! Something that cost someone in the UK £2.50 to send, costs me €4.85. Furthermore, while in the UK they can make some sort of claim on items lost, we can't.

Registered mail is a laugh too, checking it on the website status only says 'delivered', no hint at whether the seller signed for it etc.

But in fairness, I think royal mail can be very lax, they always seem to be on strike, so they have to share a measure of the blame.

Whenever I send an item to the UK, i have to laugh when I'm asked to send it first class, and explain that we have one bog standard service unless they want to double the postage cost and go for registered.
