E36 Coupe ASC & ABS

After sucessfully mananging to look after the cooling system .. I now have a slight problem.

A few months ago I had a mechanic sort out a few ABS sensors, front / back left were dirty and back right needed replacing. This reset the ASC & ABS lights.

However, after all the messing about with the cooling system and the fact that the car was lying up for a few weeks, the battery was totally drained (at one stage not even enough juice to open the boot via the central locking)

Since it has been up an running again, the ASC & ABS seem to have a mind of their own. On start up they will stay illuminated for a few hundred meters, then go off and 50% of the time they will come back on after a few miles. The rest of the time they will stay off for the rest of the journey.

My first reaction was that there could be an issues with the fact that the battery was totally drained, is there a simple reset that can be done? or is the ASC Module constantly resetting itself?

I will have a look the weekend to see if cleaning the senors would make any difference but the fact that the lights are intermittant I have sort of ruled that out in my head.

Has anyone got a suggestion, or a magic trick that might reset the lights rather than having to pay for a diagnostic?

It could be a sensor on the way out - you're gonna need to plug it in to find out for sure, it could be any of the number of components in the system.

I don't think leaving it idle would cause an intermittent problem like yours (although I've been wrong on a few occasions!)

you could check and see are your brake lights working? mite be a brake light switch.

this problem seems to have disappeared, for the last two days the lights have stayed off.

Fingers crossed it stays that way!!
