Some of you know I did a survey of jobseekers well here is a summary of the results. Someone I know agreed to publish it (www.hrri.ie) so plenty of HR and recruitment types will get to see it, will update on general reception to it.

Key points from the findings are:

    • In the month previous to the survey 67% of respondents had applied to over 5 jobs directly with companies; 22% had applied for over 20 jobs directly

    • 86% claimed that less than 1 in 4 companies had replied to them with anything other than an automated response; 36% of recruitment agencies gave no response whatsoever

    • 45% of jobseekers described their treatment by companies as “poor”; 64% felt they were being treated “terribly” by recruitment agencies

    • When describing the application/interview process WITH COMPANIES – 54% thought the level of professionalism shown was bad to terrible with 53% claiming the agreed follow-up was bad or worse

    • For RECRUITMENT AGENCIES – 55% felt the level of professionalism was bad or terrible; 70% felt the knowledge of the job was below average; and 72% described the agreed follow up as not being adhered to

    • A whopping 90% of respondents believed RECRUITMENT AGENCIES posted fake jobs – 46% believed somewhere between half and three-quarters of agency advertised jobs were fake

    • Most felt fake jobs were posted primarily to have for future needs

    • 75% felt agencies posted jobs more than once online, whereas 38% of companies were perceived to carry out this practice

    • 81% of respondents believed the Job-sites did not police this practice in any meaningful way

    • Of the job searching methods used – job-boards came out as most used, followed by newspapers, and personal networking. New media methods had a relatively low take up with 1.86% claiming to use Twitter in their job search strategy

    • Less than 25% believed they needed help with their CV preparation BUT 43% said they would benefit from career direction advice

A couple of questions to make your survey more meaningful to me:

    - How were participants selected
    - What was the response rate
    - Representative were the respondents versus the population
    - Of the respondents, how many received a job offer from the interviews during the period under review

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Jim

    Hi Flash Harry

Can you tell me what industries these jobseekers are from, as it may represent the facts bit more?

Yeah sorry guys, we started out just gathering a general feeling so didn't look for industry details etc - in hindsight would of been good....

184 participants, simply asked to participate through forums, certain recruiters, job clubs etc....as I said initially to gather general feelings
