Are rules for this competition slightly different from the normal juvenile rules?

The only difference I saw last week at a match was all 45's had to be taken from the ground. I checked the list of rule changes since May 15th and this one is not listed.

Reason I ask is that my lads school team that I'm helping out with has a final on Thursday and not one of the kids would be that good at kicking off the ground. I was one that liked when frees & 45's had to be taken from the ground as it was a skill in itself that was usually only mastered by 1 or 2 players on a team and needed a lot of practice.

I always thought the Bunscoil competitions had the same rules as normal juvenile games - so I don't see why that would be the case that the lads should have to kick the 45 off the ground.

you wouldn't happen to know someone in the know that could confirm this for me by Thursday lunch time?

I don't but maybe the contacts list is here. Maybe one of those might be able to clarify it, or know who does know

I was doing umpiring for the CNB finals in Croke Park in December. All 45's in Junior and Senior were taken from the hands. Whether they've changed the rule since, I don't know.

I did see a rule book for under 11 that said that when a defender puts the ball over their own end line, the other team are awarded a 30 m free, which can be taken from the ground or their hands

thats what I know aswell. They dont mention them to be called "45's", but they call them frees from 30yds as 45yd is too long and half the pitch length.

But even in league games they take them out of the hand

i have seen both being used. have you rang around local schools to see what they think?

    Not yet.

I'm helping out with the school team and before 15th May, in the matches they took them out of the hand but after this they were told from the ground, yet I have not found anything in the rule ammendments to back this up
The school is playing a the final on Thursday and I would doubt any kid has the ability to get the ball into the air to have a chance of scoring a point as they never practice the skill. I for one, like the idea, but feel it would have been nice to phase it in

The rules used to appear in the In-Touch Magazine, Usually at the start of the School year.
