Chorus SD quality on LCD TV

    Hi all,

At the moment I have a Sony Bravia 40" 40V4000 LCD TV, to which I have connected the Chorus HD box. Now Ive gotten well used to the substandard picture you get when running SD signal into a HDTV, I knew that this would be the case when I got the TV and I just learned to live with it.

But at the moment Im trying to watch the England v Mexico game on UTV, and quite frankly Im looking at 22 black and white squares running around the pitch; it so pixelated I can barely make out the numbers on their backs, let alone their faces. Is this normal for UTV on Chorus, like is it broadcast with a weaker signal than the other channels or something? I dont watch UTV very often (or at all really) so Ive never really noticed it before.

Is there anything I can do to improve this? I have the Chorus box set to 720p but changing it to 1080i makes no difference. On the TV I have the likes of noise reduction turned off, as most guides I have read suggest this as a way of improving the SD signal. Even with noise reduction on fully, it makes little or no difference.

Finally is Sky HD any better for the quality of SD signal than Chorus, like does the Sky HD box do any better a job of upscaling than the Chorus box?

I just got a UPC SD box, (see seperate thread) and the quality is abysmal when compared to Sky HD, even the non HD channels running over the HD box. Various reasons I reckon, no HDMI connection for starter.

Yeah the SD box will be poor because it is making no attempt to upscale, plus scart is poor quality compared to HDMI anyway. Id expect you to see some improvement when you get the HD box, but dont be expecting miracles; my signal quality ranges from just barely better than normal YouTube quality to just about acceptable at best.
