Minor birdstrike today at Connaught

A BMIbaby Boeing 737 flight no. WW1092 reported a birdstrike to the windscreen on departure out of Connaught en-route to Birmingham today 24/05/10 at 16.08. The crew, who reported that the birdstrike occurred on rotation were not concerned that any damage was done to the aircraft and continued on their flightplan.
A subsequent runway inspection found three small bird carcasses of unknown species around the point where the aircraft rotated.
The flight arrived in Birmingham at 17.01

How frequent are incidents like these? I presume it happens quite a lot but is only deemed serious if an engine or control surface is damaged?

Not really, head on fuselage damage can also cause problems.

Connaught Airport ?? thats 2 names too late. It's been Knock International since then and now Ireland West Airport Knock. Sorry for picking;). Glad it didn't do too much damage and everyone was OK.

Connaught is still used by pilots and ATC. 'Connaught tower' is used as a callsign. But yes you are right the official airport name is Ireland West Airport Knock. It is indeed great that it was a minor incident and nobody hurt.

Ya they happen from time to time,An Aer Lingus flight to Gatwick had the same problem a few months ago at EIKN.birds can be a problem at Knock and useually, but not all of the time,a "bird" inspection is carried out before flights arrive/depart.i.e a van drives up and down the runway and fires a type of flare gun which gives a loud band to shift the birds, sometimes not to great affect!

Not anymore, the aerodrome title was changed to "Ireland West" on all charts and a couple of years back.

The official marketing name is still Ireland West Airport Knock, but they may as well drop the Knock bit, all it does is confuse as to it's location. There were a few stories in the media last year about tourists getting lost driving the wrong way down the N17 and missing flights.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it was found to be "not quite what it seems"

Seems pretty real with the ATC audio and the fire trucks at the end.

If it is a fake, amateur filmmakers should take a few notes.

Apologies to all, I just glanced at it and confused it with a similar one on youtube which was proven to be a dud.
