Hi Mods, I know there is a media forum for these types of requests so if you think I’m being cheeky posting here please do move the post. It’s just that I am very interested in this topic and want as many replies if possible; it’s hard to get anyone to talk about it.

About me - I am a journalism student and I am doing a series of feature articles on body issues.

One of these is on eating disorder prevalence among boys. A postgraduate of NUI Galway has recently conducted a male body image survey, and is currently processing the data, some of the results show that men are becoming increasing more interested in how their body looks.

As far as eating disorders go, It is hard to find a young man that I could talk to about this; it seems to be a carefully hidden secret for a lot of people.

I think it is important to have discourse about eating disorders affecting boys and men, to take it out of the taboo zones and make men feel like they could talk about it if they wanted to, make it so that is it not such a big deal to even talk about how they feel about their bodies.

To talk about the problem esp. with up to date information can make issue become less taboo, with a new generation of young men growing up we should make them feel less alone in having any problem in a world where image is so important.

If anyone who feels like they would be interested in contributing to my article and giving me a perspective that I have yet to find, please send me a pm, it would be confidential if you want it that way and I would never give your details to anyone.

I mean, do men here think that men suffering from eating disorders is as common as I seem to think it is?
