New cold water/expansion tank?

Hi guys, I just got a survey done on a house i have put an offer in, and one of the urgent repairs they noted was that these needed replacing:
The cold water storage tank and expansion tank are positioned in
the roof space. They are of galvanised steel type and are original.
They are both in poor condition and require replacement. They
are at risk of failure/splitting, due to the level of corrosion
apparent. We would advise that this work is undertaken
    immediately.

We would also recommend that the tank is
thoroughly insulated and the provision of a fitted lid should also
be incorporated. All older gun barrel pipework should be
removed at this time and replaced.

Can anyone give me a ballpark of what this kind of thing costs before i go getting plumbers in to do estimates etc. Are these new PVC tanks very expensive?

    Thanks for any help

No they are not expensive. PVC thanks and fittngs will set a plumber back about 300 euro. Allowing 1-2 days at 150 a day that comes to about 600

But you might get it cheaper.

If i were you i would buy propper lids for the tanks which will set you back another 100 euro. The lids are as dear as the tanks because they are legislation.

I would also get lagging jackets...

So with all and all in about 800 Euro to 1000....

I am not a plumber though so this is just estimation.

You should see about converting the heating system to a Sealed system and getting rid for the need of an expansion tank.

To replace gun barrel piping can cost a lot and can lead to other issues ,like replacing the cylinder aswell.

I'd call a plumber out to give a price ,before you decide to do anything. You may not be able to seal the heating system ,because the boiler/system may not be capable.
Preferably call a reputable heating installer ,because only they would know if the boiler/system can be sealed.

A plumber doing it as a nixer might do it for 150 a day.

If your getting a plumber to replace the tanks get him to check out all the other pipework while hes there , once the gunbarrel pipe starts going then your better off just ripping it out and repipe the house ,otherwise you will be getting repairs constantly forever.

i dont know any plumber that is going to work for 150 euro a day.

also as Outkast said - look into getting that g. b . pipework replaced as it will only cause you head aches down the line

Guys both of you are either plumbers or involved in the plumbing trade what dont you actually correct me with a rate rather than just say I am wrong.

Its being a tad bit padantic and I did say I could be wrong.

and to add to that, what is a plumbers day rate? or what do ye charge per day?

Theres no day rate on me ,the price of the job usually drops when I get it done quicker.

When I here Day rate ,it usually means an architect or project manager is looking after things. In which case the plumber isn't making any money and the project manager is.

    My apologies Joey.

My day rate is €280 plus VAT @13.5%. I know my over heads so that's what I charge. I know others that charge more and less but thats what I charge, because I know that i do quality work (and that's from been in houses where I have witnessed shoddy workman ship to say the least, especially in houses that have been built in the last 7 years. The boom houses).

I'm sorry if i got up your nose with that last post Joey. And I know people will probably post stuff like "your a robber" or "ye rip off" but you get what you pay for.

like yoshytoshy i dont do day rates , a job is either charged by the hour or quoted for whats involved in the job . if i was asked for a price for labour only on a job i would prob say 300 to 350 but its hard to say each job is different

Thanks for the replies guys - as it happens the owners are going to get the work done before the sale, so i've avoided it. :)
