as the title suggests. my radio cant pick up signals after 2 years randomly, ive swapped in for another radio and have the exact same problem, it seems the connection for the ariel is carrying alot of static on the outside terminal if you know what i mean, it stops after a wile of driving and starts randomly again. ive tried a sony and pioneer radio with 2 different aerial connection types to no avail. it seems the lead going to the aerial is picking iup static on occaisions, can anyone explain this, 1 thought would be the altinator causing static. that would explain the static being random. how to i fix this?

I've been getting the same lately but in certain areas. My radio will randomly pick up static or a different station altogether. Sometimes even the local taxi rank frequency. :pac:

How did you come to that conclusion ?

Are you hearing a low whining noise through the radio that matches the engine revs?

If static electricity was the problem, then one of those anti-static rubber grounding strips would help I imagine eg. Example
You attach them to a metallic part of your car, and they trail along the ground discharging the static.

Do you get a lot of static shocks when you get out of your car ?

Ps. I'm no mechanic at all, I just know about those anti-static devices.

what car is it, could be a faulty ariel amplifier causing it

Maybe that's why it's not working? :pac: Might be an older BMW though and his 2 year old after market radio is broken?

+1 for aerial amp being faulty or disconnected

if its your dads pajero though :D, check if it has what appears to be a heater film on a rear side window, thats the antenna, check the connections to make sure its not a loose connection on the window
