Second hand precast

    Hi All,.

I know this is going to sound a bit off the wall, but here goes.

I was at the finglas roundabout the other day and there was a section of precast concrete, it was a piece about ten to 15 feet on one side and two other sides of about 6 feet each.I am guessing that this would be a support section for the work they are completeing on the M50.
Essentially this was a U or an arch.
There appeared to be an issue with this and there was a man with a clipboard who it would seem was telling the workers there was an issue with the piece, (I base this on 14 seconds of dective work and the flapping of hands which was going on).
If it were not for the rules of the road, I would have abandoned car and run right there and then across the road to ask them if there were an issue, but obviously this was not an option.

MY QUESTION IS THIS::::: If there was damage or whatever to this piece, and if it were to be used as a support piece, then presumably they could not use it.
    WHAT HAPPENS TO IT????

Would there be a graveyard of these bits? I could so use just one of these sections, but I imagine it would cost thousands.
If anyone knows if there is a central 'Ooops we got that bit wrong' department you can call, I would be most gratefull for any info.

    Thanks

    Bell:D:D

What do you want to use it for.
No engineer would certify the use of a defective piece of precast, regardless if it was oversized

    Hi Mellor,

I want to use it as a feature in the garden, it would be a U on its side which would act as a surrounding wall for a fire pit area that I would like to do for the kids so that we have a sort of camp out area.

I have searched salvage and second hand, but mostly I get architectural stuff or stuff that must have fallen from the moon.

    Thanks

AFAIK, unwanted/ wrong order PC items are sent back to be crushed.
Even most 'readymix' yards will have these facilities in case a lorry comes back with excess conc.
There would be considerable costs in getting a pre-cast company to pick up a wrong/defective order like this, and deliver it to your home. I can't see them going for it, cheaper and safer (from a H&S) point of view to just uplift it to the crusher.

    Thanks for that,

I did think it was unlikely, but the one sitting there the other day sort of spoke to me and set a huge wheel in motion in my brain.

Guess its back the drawing board. Thanks for the info though, I can stop looking for non existant sites now or stop lingering at the M50 roundabouts....

    Thanks
