Problem with passport, Help!

I am due to fly from Shannon to Edinburgh next Wednesday but I have a problem. The thing is I lost my passport last Friday when I was moving out of my apartment. I notified the security in the complex but I have heard nothing back since.

I do not expect to find it as a result. Now what can I do? Can I go to Dublin or Cork(?) tomorrow and get a new passport? Could they issue one at such short notice? Any advice would be much apreciated.

If you are an EU citizen then it doesn't matter too much.

Do you have a drivers license?

If the OP is on Ryanair he will need a passport.

OP, you can go to either passport office with proof of travel and all your required documentation for a passport. Check out the DFA website for info on emergency passports.

True you don't need a passport but it really does make life a lot easier. My wife only had a driving licence when she went to the UK in the spring and while it was OK it would have been quicker with a passport and less questions. My son didn't have either and it was a real pain proving who he was and where he was from. Suffice to say he now has a passport.

Edit> see mikedragon32's post above I stand corrected.

Yes you just need proof. Sorry I didn't know it was Ryanair.

Bring your travel documents with you to the office and pay the applicable fee + a fee for same day and your off.

You will still have to get your photos validated by a Garda so bring other ID and/or birth certificate with you?

    Under 18? You might be?

You will need your parents to go to the Garda station with you.

    Two issues here:

    1. If your passport is lost, you will need to make a declaration to the Gardai that your passport is lost. Its not as simple as just getting a new one. You'd need to look at the passport office website.

And if you lose your passport more than afaik a couple of times, you will end up with a passport with very limited duration. So be careful.

    2. Because of the backlog at the passport offices at the moment and because of the "work to rule", again afaik, they are not doing "quickie passports" unless people have actual proof that they need to go to e.g. Auntie Immaculata's funeral or have a job interview with Nasa or whatever. Again, you need to go to the passport website and ring them Monday morning.

    Good luck.

Yes, I've informed the Gardaí.. But I was thinking about cancelling my Edinburgh trip and just applying as normal for a new passport.. I've heard since there was a strike it could take longer than two weeks.. So would I be better off getting my new emergency passport now since I have proof of travel if I want to go to Spain in early July? Thanks!

This should give you more information:
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/travel-and-recreation/travel-abroad/passports/replacing_a_lost_or_stolen_Irish_passport

There are still huge delays but apparently Cork is faster than Dublin.

Your passport may take longer to process because of the loss issue.

Rather than posting on a website, your first port of call should be the passport office.

22 days is the current time it takes to get a passport.

22 days is the current time it takes to get a passport.

...and I think that's 22 working days, though I think it's up to 25 working days in Dublin, shorter wait in Cork.

    25 working days is correct.

    The extra staff are pointless.......

unions vote this week................so a week before extra staff can get the greeb light

roughly 2 weeks before they start as they have to be contacted, start date etc.

2 weeks of training to start on the job............

so 5 weeks before they touch an item of work in the job.............
