Shaving - Gel, Foam, Soap, Oil or Other?

I was shopping with the girlfriend yesterday and I've been shaving with shaving oil for about 2-3 years now. I find it much better than any other method tried over the years.

Only thing is, the cost of it is insane. A single 10 ml bottle (Total Shaving Oil) is 6.30 in Tesco. this works out at 630.00 Eur for 1 liter  Honestly, how can that be justified

    /rant

Adding a poll as I curious as to how many people are using oil vs other methods (gel, foam etc)

What do you shave with? 48 votes

I think the real question here is, does your GF shave or wax?.

Oh yea - gel for me.

Possibly better suited to here? http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1103

In any case I use Proraso soap (the tub version), brilliant stuff.
I can't remember how much it cost but I only have to buy 2-3 a year!

Neither I'd bet, this is Ireland after all. Foam for me, I tried non-foaming Lush stuff that was great but expensive (think it's called Ambrosia), may well go back to it as it's very nice.

well stone me I never thought there would be a board for facial hair lol

    I've tried soap... to dry
    Foam is ok.
Gel is good and keeps the blades clearer too. Easier than foam to rinse.
    Never tried oil.
Bought an electric razor a few years ago. Didn't like it.

I just use soap and shave in the shower.
Two birds with one stone, as it were.

I usually shave with foam, but I prefer gel.
Da only ever gets foam so it's just handier.

I use the Mühle shaving soap with aloe vera. Works grand and lasts ages.

I've used the same BIC since February.

Another vote for the Fat, it sure is hard to beat Mitchells Wool Fat and it's lanolin. If I had to pick one cream it'd be one of the DR Harris shaving creams.

It's the only thing i really spend money on myself for. Proraso is my favourite though.

Why would you use soap to dry yourself... that's the question.

Tesco has this really really cheap hair conditioner, orange in colour, i think it's 39cent.

Mix half and half with baby oil, add a few drops of lavander oil.

Hey presto, smooth smooth skin, with no cuts or dryness!

I've only ever used it on legs, underarms and undercarriage, but I've given it to guys before to try on facial hair and they said results were really good :D

I ususally use Palmolive shaving cream. Works quite well and is fairly cheap. It's much better than any of the gels. In fairness though... plain water is better than those in most cases.

Otherwise i use CREME with a regular razor..

True. Even Palmolive is better, much better if you use it with a brush. But, honestly, anything with a brush is better than that ****e in aerosol cans. Have a shower and then lather up. Even with an overpriced Mach III (or is it II; I forget), you will see better results and your face will look and feel better with soap and a brush. And (I wish there was some way of automatically generating this phrase) DO NOT PUSH DOWN ON YOUR RAZOR. Even if you are using some overpriced gadget sold by footballers, or indeed if you are using a proper double-edged or straight razor, let the edge of the blade do the work. Just slide it along with no pressure; that is how it is designed to shave you.
