not its not a joke- she has said it twice to my mum (her sister)
i thought she was just being mad, but my fiances gran-aunt said the same!
his side of the family don't know if they should send us engagement cards as
not sure if we are engaged as such!!

we are doing the wedding a little differently i know but i still think of myself as engaged!
    thanks for the support,

soooo, you're getting married but because you don't have a rock on your finger you're not engaged? that's ridiculous. Ignore that silly woman.

of course your engaged dont mind the silly woman at the end of the day its what you and your partner think not everyone else and anyway if she feels that way why dont you forget to send her an invite to the wedding as its not really a wedding just a declaration of your love and commitment to each other :D

we had the same problem, we got engaged in feb and most people were fine but we got the ring a few weeks ago and now even his mum only think of us engaged from when we got the ring.
i wasnt going to get a ring for a while so i dont know what they'd have done there.
you are definately engaged, dont mind anyone who thinks otherwise i'm sure they'll still come to the wedding.

what if your engagement ring doesnt have diamonds in it?

some of the protocal associated with Irish weddings is ridiculous, its your wedding do what you want, everyone else has had or will have their opportunity on their big day

It's "engaged to be married" so you are! You don't need a ring... I certainly won't be having one either.

Some people just think that you need the ring, the big dress and the church - if not it doesn't count!

Maybe worth bearing in mind that if you don't wear a wedding ring you'll clearly not be married :pac:

Tell her you're sorry to hear that De Beers brainwashing has had such an effect on her!!
Engagement is a declaration of intent to marry, of course you're engaged. Tell them to cop on.

Hey Peg -- I agree with everyone here. If two people have agreed upon marriage and intend to get married, then they're engaged. Other people can say whatever they want . . . you know you're going to get married! Wooooo!!
