CIMA qualified survey 2009

    Hi

I've 2 years CIMA PQE working abroad in a tax free location. While I'm happy with my remunation I've working savage hours. I saw the CIMA qualified survey for 2009 and it says

    Average package including bonus
    Years PQE Euro
    1-3 64800
    4-5 73900

Average hours worked per weeks is 44 with 87% of people working less than 50. These figures seem pretty high to me especially since as a male working in Dublin I could probably expect a 10-20% premium on the euro 64800.

I've gained some amazing experience in my current location but was wondering if I returned to Dublin, could I expect such a salary or is the survey incorrect? It was carried out in 2009 hence the influence of the recession should be already built into the figures?

    Thanks,
    E

Btw the above figures are for Ireland - c'mon surely someone has an opinion on this?!!
I would reckon that post qualification pay for CIMA graduates would be similar to that of ACA / ACCA graduates. Could I really expect such a salary with 2 yrs post qualification experience, if so I'd think about returning to Ireland
    thanks

From talking to friends who've qualified with both ACA and CIMA these amounts seem a bit high at the moment.

Well most people seem to of takena paycut of one sort or another, while alot of qualified people are unemployed or have had to take work at considerably less than those amounts for the short-term.

Advice - Stay where you are at the moment unless you've got something set up to return to.

Probably wouldn't be wise to give up current job to come home with the expectation of getting that kind of money.

Best advice I'd give is to apply for jobs even though you are abroad and if you get an interview for a solid job arrange sufficient time off to attend for interview.

Yes that's what people were on but most people moving horizontally in their career are taking a pay cut.

As far as I remember the CIMA survey includes bonuses and places a monetary value on other benefits so the basic would be below what you have posted up.

The market here is tough at the moment. Secure a job first before you come home.

I've interviewed FAS candidates with 1-2 years experience and exams and they cost zero!!!

Pretty obvious really, FAS placements for a year, qualified with 1-2 years experience and no cost to the company as they are paid by FAS.
Why would we hire when they are for free, very sad day

Okay, you'll need to elaborate for your post to be any benefit.

Are you an FD of a multi-billion multi National or do you sell the odd second hand car from your back yard?

Bearing in mind the OPs qualifications and experience do you take on people that can fully finish accounts or are you bringing in people for assistant type roles.

It is, as you say, a sad reflection that there are qualified accountants taking "experience work", but going on the limited info you are giving there's statistically a good chance these accountants would be able to buy and sell you once their careers get back on track.

thanks, I thought the figures were a bit high to be honest. I'll stay put for another year or two and see what happens in the future

    Thanks for the responses
