O2 HTC Desire - possible to unlock??

I switched from 3 to O2 today and was going to get a sim only plan, but asked about the Desire just off-chance. Turned out they had one in the shop even though it's not officially launched there yet.

Anywho, I have a milestone and so was only getting it to sell to my mate. He's Vodafone though so obv it needs to be unlocked.

Unfortunately the O2 desire has a 0.80 bootloader so the current root process listed a few threads below wont work for it.

Does anyone know if there is a root (and hence unlocking) procedure out for the O2 Desires yet? Or is it possible to simply ring up O2 and get a code to unlock it??

    Cheers

Heres a root process for the .80 bootloader but rooting doesnt unlock the phone.
A sim lock can only be unlocked with an unlock code. Since youve just bought the o2 phone I doubt theyd unlock it but theres a few websites that can apparently provide one.Never used any though so I dunno which are successful

Rooting doesn't unlock it? I could have sworn it did when i did it on my old Samsung Galaxy. Cheers for that anyway

Try the Vodafone Sim anyway. I got one from Vodafone a week ago. It wasn't locked or branded in any way. I think with the new phones they send the first few straight to the shops to get the stock out there.

To answer you question: I contacted the admin of HTC Code to see about unlocking a desire from meteor! This was the reply
    "Hi

    We can unlock the phone.
It will be 15 EUR or $20.
You can purchase it off the website or pay to admin @ totalgsm . org

    Regards"

Lots of iffy feedback earlier this month, but seems to have been sorted @ this stage. Plus I think the charge is €21 now, payable via Paypal rather than through the site. I didn't have to use the service, thank God. Vodafone Desire came unlocked.
Good luck with it either way!
