Playing a fourball tomorrow in club competition. i'm new to the competition scene and have only played a couple of singles competitions but never a fourball.

Just wondering do you still sign into the computer? And afterwards, what about scores, are they entered someway or what is the procedure in fourball?

Dunno about other clubs but in my club you dont sign into the computer and you simply fill out the card and put it into the card box at the end of the round. Just make sure its signed, dated and has the compitition names and your handicaps on it.

There's the 7-up rule for score cards.

There are seven items which must be on every score card for it to conform to the rules.

    1. Player's (or players') name(s)
    2. Player's (or players') handicap(s)
    3. Date
    4. Competition name
    5. Shots taken
    6. Player's (or players') signature(s)
    7. Marker's signature

The points, if it's a stableford competition are the responsibility of the competition committee.

Aster, is that the fourball on in blarney tomorrow?

I've never played in a competitive fourball either, but I know they don't go through the computer there anyway.

Lads, is it one card per team of two? i.e. Player A and Player B?

One card per team, player A & player B on the same card. Mark your full handicaps and shots received (ye will probably be playing off 3/4 of your full handicaps).
Mark the best (most valuable) score in the column of the player that got that score so if Player A had a shot and player B didn't and they both got a par, then put the par in column A and 3 points in the points column.... no need to fill in all scores from both players, just the one that matters on each hole.
If both of ye have the same (worth) score on a hole then usually fill in whoever was in the hole first though you might mark it in the most miserable looking column to cheer that guy up :)

Terrible..... shocking day for me. The other team I was playing with did pretty well though.

Very very slow. There was an unbelievably ignorant team in front of us (seemingly made up of long time members). When we started the round at 9.30 they were on the first hole* waiting for people to get off the green. By the time they were teeing off on the 16th there was nobody in front. They fell a full 3 holes behind. Disgraceful.
The ranger was out to them twice, they just completely ignored him. The were sauntering along on every hole... taking there time. Not once did they even acknowledge us behind them. Really got on my nerves going around.

*They actually started off on the wrong tee's. Played from the greens on the first hole.... now that's about 20-30y in front of the whites. I was thinking of saying it to the pro afterwards.... hoping that their slow play was because they were putting in a good score and that might get them disqualified. :o

Oh, and just to add... I thought the greens were pretty horrendous. Not bad condition, but just not cut. Back to the way they were all summer last year.

ya would agree about the greens being slow. Thought the fairways were outstanding though.

What type of score would win it?

Enjoyed the game but my driving was terrible, really left me down

Ya, fairways were very nice....unfortunately I didn't see too many of them :o

I'm not sure, but you see 43+ points winning the singles regularly enough, so presume a best ball team event is going to bring in 50 odd points.

The two guys I was with got 44 points and reckoned there was no way they'd be in the prizes.

The lads playing with me said they'd 42 pts last year and were beaten for 3rd prize on the back 9. They couldn't remember what won but thought maybe it was around 45 pts.
So i wasn't too certain what type of score would be needed

I'd say the lads u were with should be well up there with 44 pts.

3/4 of the handicap makes it that slight bit more difficult

Ya, I keep forgetting about that. Maybe they will be so. Results still not in.

Any sign of the results for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,053 ✭✭✭jimbling

Ya, they're up on the website now.

Sat: 46 points first, 45 second.
Sun: 48 points first, 45 second.
