E169G vs K3765?

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knew which one of these were better, particularly in terms of handling poor signal areas. I currently use the E169G which seems to lose 3G capabilities in poor weather (~3months worth in the last 12 :o). Vodafone have offered me the K3765 as an upgrade, only if the contract is renewed for 12 months. Does this perform better than the E169G, or am I wasting my time?

k3765 is a horrible modem it was always kicking me off the network would just stop loading pages would have to disconnect and re connect again i live in a very high signal area from vodafone and the most i got from it was 3 bars singal max even bringing it outside made no differance singal was the same.and the modem gets red hot after a while of browsing..it may or may not work better for you it depends really i just had a horrible experiance with it

Cheers for the feedback Jay. Judging from that, i'd be far better off skipping the upgrade and the contract renewal!

If you keep loosing your 3G connection, it's likely you're at the edge of a cell. In that case, the modem is probably not going to make a difference.

What might work, is to get a 3G router (see thread), plug the modem into that, and put them both in a location where the signal is best (up high, close to a window facing the direction of the phone mast). You can then connect through a wired or wireless LAN interface.

    Hey Jor el

During fine weather, I don't lose the 3g connection ... speeds vary from ~2Mbs to .2Mbps at different locations outside the house, only GPRS is reliable inside!
During bad weather (from december to ~march :o), the software connects fine, but it works only when the s/w shows HSDPA, if it switches to 3g i can see outgoing traffic (eg in wireshark) but nothing comes back. So I end up 'losing' internet connectivity until the s/w switches to HSDPA again, which varies anywhere from ~1-5mins. (Before this i thought 3g/HSDPA were the same thing!)
Would you reckon the Dovado 3GN router would have a fair chance of improving things?

    and here's another question:

if I get a Dovado UMR/3GN, does anyone know if these support wireless repeater functionality? i already have a netgear which does, and it would be fairly handy to get a better wi-fi signal from where the dovado is located -> Netgear -> PCs

yeahh its really not worth getting into another 12 month contract when it will prob give the same performance as the last modem!!i think the repeater routers would be the best option you should get a more stable connection with it my o2 never drops out when its bad weather however vodafone did i find there 3G service to be no good in bad weather :D

ya ... i'd get a hold of one if i knew for sure it supported wireless repeater functionality? that'd be savage for distributing a moderate signal throughout the house.
