    Hi,

I'm having problems with my laptop and connecting to some wireless internet networks...

My laptop is a Samsung NC10, it's less than 6 months old and comes with the following wireless hardware:
      Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter
Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
      Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver

The problem is, when I'm at my apartment for example, I can connect to the internet with no problems from the next room. But when I'm at my girlfriends place, I can't connect to her wireless internet anywhere in the house, except 1 room directly above the wireless box, but I can't even connect in the same room as the wireless box. My "Network Places" detects the network at my girlfriends, and I have the key/password correct and everyone else in the house can connect from their laptops no problem.

It sometimes happens in places randomly, I stayed at a place a couple of months ago with the same problem, I just can't connect to the network although I have the network key correct and my computer can detect the network when searching for wireless devices (with decent signal strength also).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card, and nothing has changed. I'm not sure if it's faulty and should be replaced? (I've moved country and all this will be at my own expense, no warranty details etc.)

It's super frustrating and any solution ideas would be greatly appreciated. Is this something to do with the wireless card? Is the card just crappy and not maintaining a steady connection strength or it's range is the problem? Should I replace it? When I try to connect to my chosen network, it gets to the point of "waiting for the network" but fails after that, but the network is definitely not the problem (seeing as my girlfriends laptop is one side of me posting this, and my laptop is the other side of me but not able to connect...)

Or Internet / connection settings? I feel like I've tried everything and the damn computer just refuses to connect to the internet while I'm in certain places!

    Please help!

Have you tried forcing it over to another channel?

Has the admin of the router at her house enabled MAC-Address filtering?

look like a different wireless application is taking control of your wireless connection insted of the actual windows wireless network service, try to disable any other wireless software application and try enabling the actual windows wireless application. cheers
