Of course, not the first politiician to exaggerate military service action!

More to the point, is it a neurosis generally confined to American representatives to play up the 'war hero' card, even if it does not make much difference on how they handle day-to-day affairs?

Now, if we find out he was smoking dope on the campuses back then, it would perfectly round off this story. :)

I desperately want to believe no politician would be so stupid to pretend that he fought in a war.

Considering this is the guy who was raped by Glenn Beck last year over the manufactured outrage of the AIG bonuses did you actually at one point think he was smart?

Frankly Glen Beck trying to rape anything - Glen Beck is not that credible.

Whether you want to admit it or not is your own business OH but Glenn destroyed Blumenthal in that interview.

I was thinking more along the lines of Journalism and Religious sanctity.

Really? I thought CBS and Dan Rather, MSNBC with Olberamm and Maddow had already destroyed journalism.

his show's high ratings have not come without controversy from both outside and inside Fox News.[47] The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz reported that Beck's use of "distorted or inflammatory rhetoric" has given him a "lightning-rod status", that in turn, has complicated the channel's and their journalist's efforts to neutralize White House criticism that Fox is not really a news organization.[47] Television analyst Andrew Tyndall echoed these sentiments, calling Beck an "activist" and "comedian" whose incendiary style has created "a real crossroads for Fox News", stating "they're right on the cusp of losing their image as a news organization."[47]

Glenn Beck is not a journalist. That hasn't stopped him from destroying it.

You will also find no claim on Wikipedia, for instance, that Maddow or Olbermann are Journalists.

But Rather? Really? The man has a documented liberal bias sure, but he's also an acclaimed journalist.

Glenn has never claimed a journalist.

Rather reported on false documents on GWB during the election run-off with Kerry. CBS told him not to air but he did resulting in his retiring [aka quit or be fired]

So yes Rather can shoulder some blame for the lack of credibilty in new journalism. Now ironically he's touting for fairer media coverage.

Ah yes he made a mistake but paid the price for it but more onto the point he admitted his mistake. Now on the other had Fox tells lies every day but go on their merry way as its "opinion".

Its like the story of christ saying "He who not has sinned cast the first stone" It would be rare thing that a journalist goes through his career without making any mistake in terms of credibility. But to say then that EVERY journalist is the equivalent of an Ann Clouter or Glenn Beck is a ridiculous notion. In fact if you believe that then it shows your own bias perfectly.

Dan Rather may have "sinned" but he doesn't have the sin of being a "mass murderer" (Using the Christ reference). There are always a nth degree here.

That is complete bull**** and you know it. He knew they were fake, was told not to air it and he did it anyway.

I know you're a complete liberal hack but your post proved it. Mistake my ass. That's like Blumenthal and Hilary "misspeaking" about his Nam service and her dodging sniper fire.

You are looking absolutely desperate and pathetic now.

Rather reported false documents even though he was told not to. Glenn destroyed Blumenthal and Blumenthal lied about his Nam service.

    You have absolutely nothing here.

This thread started out being about Blumenthal. YOU mentioned and introduced Glenn Beck into the discussion...
Considering this is the guy who was raped by Glenn Beck last year over the manufactured outrage of the AIG bonuses did you actually at one point think he was smart?

When people pointed out Beck's lack of credibility and journalistic integrity, you couldn't defend Glenn Beck and instead tried and succeeded in changing course to Dan Rather and Olbermann
Really? I thought CBS and Dan Rather, MSNBC with Olberamm and Maddow had already destroyed journalism.

And now you accuse others of doing what you ALREADY did in the very same thread?

I call hypocrisy... typical... (appropriate moniker for whatever narrow minded fundamentalist philosophy you subscribe to).

Because someone here wanted to believe Blumenthal wouldn't be so stupid to lie about his Nam service. I pointed out that Beck destroyed him a year ago over the AIG bonuses. It was a relevant point proving Blumenthal doesn't know the boundaries of his current job as State Attorney General.

No wanting to admit he looked stupid in that interview. The leftists on here went to the old fashioned attack Beck mode.

And that changes your obvious hypocrisy of trying to shift the focus from Beck to Rather and later accusing others of trying to shift the focus from Rather to elsewhere, how?

Because people want to accuse Beck of somehow destroying journalism when Rather had done that years prior.

So rather than try and justify Beck's journalistic integrity or lack thereof, you chose to attack Rather instead and shift the focus away from Beck and a few posts later accused liberals of...

None of this has to got to do with Blumenthal. Create your own Beck/Rather thread somewhere else.

It won't really matter in the end because I think he will win quite easily over Linda McMahon in Connectict(my state). Not many people have ever even heard of her, he's been attorney general for years and gets himself on TV a lot. I know she had a ton of money but has zero political experience.

    Really?

Amid criticism, CBS stands by its reports

    By Mark Memmott, USA TODAY

CBS News again defended its reporting Sunday, even as other media raised doubts about the authenticity of memos the network uncovered about President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard.
Spokeswoman Sandy Genelius said CBS "continues to work the story." CBS looked at all the issues critics raised about the documents before it reported about the memos last Wednesday on 60 Minutes, she said. "We did due diligence" and are satisfied the documents "are genuine," she said.

CBS supported the authenticity of the memos for a good 12 days following the initial Rather broadcast. CBS were only too happy to stand over the documents as far as Rather was concerned. The independent typewriter expert that CBS consulted prior to the initial broadcast only provided his opinion on the memos (that they were most likely forgeries) two days after the initial broadcast. Given that this was played out both in public at the time, and retrospectively by an inquiry afterwards, it's kind of hard to see where this 'confusion' stems from.

Oh, and Beck is entirely about undermining journalism, along with impartiality, common sense and any manner of perspective you might reference.
