Looks like Grant has resigned. He must be on his way to west ham, or just wanted to get the hell outta Portsmouth

Sad news. He did 1 hell of a job getting them to the FA Cup final considering the club's troubles.

I was actually suprised that he stayed for so long with Portsmouth.
    Good luck to him

They call him the cuckoo. He is always popping out whenever a job becomes available. Where to next I wonder?

Silly Spirit. Cuckoos don't pop out when jobs become available, they pop out when clocks strike the hour mark. Silly Spirit.

I actually thought he wasn't getting paid by the club anymore and he was doing it for free I guess he had to formally say he had to go though. Did a great Job the 9 point deduction makes it look worse then it is Pompey weren't that bad they where very close several times to grabbing the points but just fell short

I think he's done a good job whenever's he's been and think he deserves another chance at a higher level club

He'll get the West Ham job. And he'll do a great job there I reckon, might make them push up the league and not be fighting relegation as has happened a lot lately!

Problem is he never seems to stick around long enough at any club. Wouldn't have him at the Pool because he would be gone and soon as he is arrived.
Yes he did a good enough job with Chelsea and Portsmouth but you need someone with a long term plan

What? He got fired from Chelsea despite leading them to the Champions League final because he wasn't a 'big enough' name, and he then took over a club with the worst finances the Premiership had ever seen who were relegated. Leaving Portsmouth is hardly a sign that he has no commitment

Mido's reaction when he heard the Israeli will be taking over at West Ham

I really don't get Mido. He's not in it for the money and has clearly no interest in making an effort. It's not like he needs to be on West Ham's books to pull women either, is it?

... anyway in Grants favour he does seem to get on well with his players. But looking at his wiki page he has been moving around a lot recently.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avram_Grant
But the talk going around at Chelsea if im right is that he was always lurking in the wings at Chelsea while Jose was there and as such undermined Jose on his arrival at club.
Was never fully comfortable how he got the chelsea job but all is fair in love and football I guess.

Mourinho was well on his way out before Grant even got to Chelsea. "Always lurking in the wings"? He arrived at Chelsea 2 months before Mourinho left. He was appointed Director of Football, so obviously that was taking on some of the responsibilities that Jose had, but that was Abrahamovich's decision, nothing to do with Grant

    good luck to him.

Portsmouth is quite obviously in his heart, and he did a sterling job motivating them for that FA Cup run.

after the Chelsea firing, despite being a kick of a ball away from doing what nobody else in Chelsea history has done, and doing the job he did at Portsmouth under obscene circumstances, i hope he gets the West Ham job and does well.

if Rafa were to go, I'd have no problem with him being a candidate for the job; none whatsoever.

Personally I think he's going from one circus to another. West Ham irritate me with their inbred approach to running a football club. Fans are already complaining that he's not 'West'am' and they want someone linked to the club - names like Di Canio, Billic and Pardew being thrown around the WHUFC forums. Even Tony Gayle was saying how Avram Grant has got to play West Ham football (apparently fast flowing attractive football) in order to be accepted.

My girlfriend and her family are all West Ham supporters and season ticket holders so I am smothered in West Ham talk constantly and I can't stand it. They're so narrow minded that success will never come their way. Sure, back a few decades this may have worked but these days a club needs to embrace change and develop with football. West Ham has a lot of proud history but it has to move on.

For me Zola was a sad case. He clearly has potential as a manager but was at West Ham at the wrong time. The fans actually liked him because he tried to play the West 'Am style and yet he failed miserably. Compare that to someone who played ugly and got results, Alan Curbishley. The supporters really turned on him and despite being an ex West Ham man they hated him as manager.

I fear for Grant at this club. He's such a nice man that I feel he may bare the brunt of a lot of abuse from the fans should he not get immediate success. However I do feel that his strong mental strength will prove invaluable when dealing with the 2 chairmen.

    All the best Avram.

David James wants to be the Portsmouth manager, he is 6/1.

Read that. Would be interesting. Haven't Pompey said it's "too early" for him though? Maybe an asst manager role?

I like Avram Grant and he could do a good job at West Ham but he really is an unproven manager.

He has never bought players in the Premier League, all he has done is coach a team really.

As for his exploits at Portsmouth, good job getting to the cup final but it wasn't a bad squad of players to be fair. I'd have expected that squad to have been a lot closer to staying up than they were. Even without the points deduction they were relegated.

Well he did buy Anelka and Ivanovic for Chelsea, and it's not like buying players was an option at Portsmouth. It will be interesting to see what he can do with a squad he has shaped. Saying "all he has done" is a bit unfair, he has done well with the players at his disposal, and there's a fair amount of 'top' managers that haven't coached a team well.

How many points did they have when he took over? 7 from 39? Plus, there was a huge amount of off-the-pitch turmoil to deal with, players having to take pay-cuts, not getting paid, already looking for there next club. He did remarkably well, all things considered
