Bike Carrier - Octavia

    Hi Guys,

    Own a 2002 Octavia Hatchback,been to a few motor factors,including halfords.
The consensus is that there is no suitable carrier for it due to the large glass on the rear and the fact is has glass edgeing on top.
I'm not prepared to go down the route of a tow bar.

Are roofracks my only available option?

Any of ye here with a Octavia?

2006 Octavia here, bike always goes in the boot, and boy what a boot they have, could get the bike and a couple of bodies in it:D, O.P. you could always buy a boot liner,http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?srch=boot+liner&x=0&y=0&action=search&storeId=11101&catalogId=15551&langId=-1, thats what I did

In the same boat with 2005 Octavia, Roof rack is your only option unless towbar.

Have ye tried a Saris Bones Rack, lots of adjustability on them and fit almost anything...

    http://www.saris.com/p-299-bones-3-bike.aspx

Got mine through ebay but most stores online sell them

Can you Octavia owners get the bike in the boot without letting the back seats down and without taking the back wheel off the bike?

    Thanks.

I have an 03 Octavia and can get my bike in at the rear seats

I put down an old sheet, take off the front wheel, and the bike fits - not on the seats but in the foot well area.

easiest way and the bike is upright secure and front wheel is handier than the rear.

I do the same with my ford focus but it can sometimes be a problem as there is no room for a rear seat passenger. Thats why I was wondering about the bike fitting into the boot only in the Octavia!

I think an estate is the best option :)

Ha ha, same here. Seats go down, bike goes in back. I don't need to take wheels etc off then. I have a couple of dog mats that keeps it clean, even the paper boot liner that's free in Woodies does a great job.

Actually bought a liner in Tesco for 3 quid, thing is.Mine is a VRS so when you fold down the seats its not totally flat as there is struts where the back seats fold to stiffen the chassis.

Have no idea as I don't know what the Octiva looks like but I know its fitted every car I've had to use it on, which is a lot as I don't own one!

Check online for Irish dealers, I'm sure you could find a bike shop with one in stock to try.

As you say this will fit any car, the problem with the Octavia is that it doesnot have an anchor point for the straps, the hatch does not have a frame, its just glass and wont take an anchor strap.

....as I said roof rack is your only man...then add the Bike rack to that which can be got in Halfords or elsewhere.

Do you take the anchor straps could be fitted to the points in the boot where the boot net can be hooked on?
