Decoy's and Patterns

    Hi all,

My licence for my shotgun arrived recently so I hope to get out with it in the coming days to try it out. I plan on doing some pigeon shooting during the summer months. Couple of questions for anyone willing to listen.

    1. Any recommendations on the type of decoy's I should buy for pigeon?

    2. How many decoy's should I have in the pattern?

    3. What is the best time to go out, early morn/afternoon/evening?

I've researched some simple methods to build hides so I should be ok there.

    Any advice appreciated as always.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paj.

    The cheapest ones lol

    2. How many decoy's should I have in the pattern? A few, This is not an exact science It's trial and error really, Some guys spend a fortune on one of those fancy spinnie roundie jobbies, a lot of money for a few pigeons. Although if you club together with your mates to buy one they are good at getting attention

    3. What is the best time to go out, early morn/afternoon/evening? Birds feed at dawn and dusk like us humans, they also feed during the day. Leaving the trees or returning to the trees is my favorite dawn or dusk.

I find if you have a mate in the opposite end of the field without a hide the birds will fly towards the person in the hide

Hi JW. I'm not shooting over crops at the moment. I'm just getting started with pattern boards to get a feel for the gun and various types of ammo as this is my first shotgun.

I'm just doing the research at the moment for whenever I do get out shooting over crops.
