looking at venues

Im sorry if this has been asked before. We are tossing around between getting married in Ireland and going abroad. I suppose I should just check out locations here in Waterford ie hotels etc. We were thinking of getting married in 2012. Am I being too early to start looking at venues?
Do I need to book an appointment with the hotel or do I just show up and ask for a look around?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cowhands.

    Hi,

Congrats on your engagement. Definitely not too early to start looking around, the more time you give yourself the better the chance of making a well informed decision on your venue as you get to see more places :D

What we did (we only booked our venue last week after five months of searching) was generally email asking for a wedding brochure and then if it was something we felt we wanted to look at either mailed for an appointment or rang. The bonus with organising an appointment over just turning up is you're guaranteed a tour with either a manager or wedding co-ordinator who will be able to give you the best tour of the hotel in relation to a wedding and answer any questions you might have. If you just turn up someone might not be available and you may not get the best out of the hotel.

Very best of luck it's an exciting time :D
