the cro website seems a little light around what happens after you register a business name as a sole trader

    http://www.cro.ie/ena/business-registration-business-name.aspx

Does anybody know what the regulatory requirements are in terms of filling accounts etc?

Are they onerous compared to running an ltd?

Your best bet might be to do a start your own business course with your local enterprise board. They'll cover it.

I'm doing one myself soon. If you are full time working its €50, but they'll waive it if you are unemployed or redundant

    Afternoon,
Were you trading prior to using the business name? If so just continue doing your tax, VAT returns etc etc in the same way.

If not speak with an accountant. In essence you need to keep records of your various trade related income and expenses for your tax returns. Accounts for sole traders aren't that tricky (assuming you're offering a standard type of service eg IT, Plumbing, carpenter, hair stylist etc).

I use ROS (Revenue on-line) it takes a lot of the pain out of the dreaded tax returns.

    Best of luck.
    Andy
