    Hi all,
after 5 years my 60g colour ipod finally died, its been threatening to do so for a few weeks but thats that. It said on the screen to contact apple.com but now says nothing and the screen is blank. I presume its the battery gone as ive used it alot. Is there anywhere in dublin that can fix it or get a new battery in it and what price am i looking at? or alternatively am i better off just buying a new one... but there goes all my tunes
    any advice welcomed

You can buy a new battery on ebay for a couple of Euro and replace it yourself, it's not that hard and the batteries usually come with a special tool to open the ipod. That is assuming that the battery is the problem. You can also send it out for repair and there are a few places where you can bring it for repair, but you'll pay a lot more.

i got my battery replaced by ipod-rescue. cost about €35 in total. sent it on the tuesday and got it back on the friday. over all i was really happy with it the only problem was he had to change the screen for some reason or other and there are now a few hairs stuck between the screen and inside of the case. bit annoying but i can live with it

I wouldn't bother with the eBay ones. I got one and it didn't last 12 months - you get what you pay for. Went with one of the more established brands next time, and its working away despite it being a 30GB 3G.

I agree on the eBay batteries - the one I got for my 2003 third generation iPod failed even quicker than the original Apple one (which famously failed early, and, in the US, was the subject of a class-action lawsuit against Apple).

I later bit the bullet and paid for a (different supplier, better quality than the original) Apple battery to be fitted, and the old thing is still going strong, sitting in the glovebox of my car, providing my head unit with tunes!

Anyone else use this ipod rescue crowd??? - how did you find them??

Ive got an old 5th generation ipod that possibly needs a new battery. Surely €35 is better than buyin a new ipod!

    Thanks, Mr Y

    Thanks for your reply DYLF.

Out of interest, how long did the replacement battery last you?

I've already sussed em out on google. Not that i don't trust you or anything :o but was looking for feedback from a few people on the company! (€ ain't so plentiful so don't wana waste it when i could put it toward a new purchase)

P.s. Sorry to hear of the loss of your dear ipod, may it rest in peace...

well technically it still works.. it just wont hold a charge for more than a day..... (so i keeps it plugged in to the car)
after i got it done it was only working pronperly for about a week... but i had stuff going on so i never really got a chance to get back on to them to complain about it....

    Hey DYLF

Thanks for reply. Must be annoying all the same that it died off so quickly again! Maybe you should get back to the company who fixed it?

I'm more concerned with getting the music etc off my ipod now, & cannot do that as it needs to be charging to turn it on!

Anyone else have their ipod fixed by www.ipod-rescue.com/?? C'mon now people, dont be shy...:D
