    Hi
I was wondering for bands, what sort of help the use of sites such as Facebook/Myspace has helped with your band or a band you manage with aspects such as promotion, gaining new fans, connecting with existing fans and more.

More specifically I've seen two sites MusicGlue and "Tweet For A Track"
The first (musicglue.com) gets fans to input their email address to gain access to one (or more) free tracks. (with the obvious point being you get their email address for future promotion/mailing list)
The other Tweet For A Track (tweetforatrack.com) works on a similar basis, but they must enter their email address and post a tweet with the link to the free track. (possible spreading to friends/etc)

Has anyone any information/thoughts/experience on anything online related i guess im asking?

(i've had a bit of experience online..but not much to be honest!)

    Thanks in advance

    They are both huge help.....

But only if your true to yourself, ie: only get true fans to sign up to you, not use friend adders like most do :( thats only for show...

at th eend of the day you want fans that really like your music and apply to your page so I wouldnt go accepting everyone :D

I totally agree with the first part, but am not that picky about who I accept...

As long as you're friends are all self-promoting teen glamour models it's all good (only a prob on myspace).

I haven't used Facebook really... kinda wanna keep my outside life seperate for the time being.... that'll change soon enough.

I haven't gone near MySpace at all, seems "Saturated" completely from what i've read. Heard of people creating new accounts, end result they ended up with a ton of friend requests from random bands. Seems a bit stupid to engage in all that random friend adding...pointless even.

Friend adders seem very bad if you're just using them to add everyone..but what about targeted adding....or even adding people from the area? (manually probaly...you get more precision ;) )
    Any thoughts on this?

The free tracks thing seems like it'd be a great idea, saw bands offer cover versions of popular songs on it before...Would also increase exposure.

Thanks both for your input :)
