Would power go to your head?

Assuming you suddenly became very politically powerful or influential, do you think the power would go to your head?

Looking back through history, it seems that most/all of those in great power have in some way given in to the temptations that come with that power.

I was thinking of that overused & terrible quote..."With great power comes great responsibility", and came to the conclusion that I'd probably be a ruthless dictator who greatly abused his power. I like control...or at least the illusion of control.

So how about you? Saint or sinner?

You know, I think it is kind of inevitable that no matter who comes into power and wealth and significance it can affect them. Even the soundest and nicest of people could alter slightly. Now, how they change is what matters.

Imagine suddenly having such influence and power over peoples lives? The buzz, the thrill and excitement that could bring? A doctor or surgeon for example.

I don't think I would turn into a plonker or arsehole, but maybe I wouldn't be
    as grounded

Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I'm with the old Greeks, the philosophers should rule society and should not have any possessions. If you don't stand to make personal gain by power you make better choices.

The surgeons you know aren't doctors? Explains a lot, have you ever had brain surgery?

But someone who is power mad would see gaining power as a personal gain so would aim to gain more power.

I will freely admit that I would be completely changed by power, I dont think Id like the person Id become if I got power, not that theres any chance of it happening  However, just in case, Id better start practicing Cower brief Mortals!!!!!!!! ;);)

If I had a lot of power, it wouldn't change me. As long as everybody did exactly as I said, we'd all get along just fine.

I think it would be hard not to.

A friend of mine, I thought he was all ecological and hippy and cuddly but the other day some politician was the tv, and he said "Those people need to be supressed"...I hope he never gets power!

Would power go to my head? I certainly hope so.

Humility is overrated. It's arrogance and ambition that get things done. The trick would be in pointing my new powers in the right directions.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

    I'd be fine.
I was absolutely corrupted years back, a little power couldn't possibly make me worse.
First order of business, bring me the headshop bill and while you're at it bring me Joe Duffy's head on a plate, and a nice cup of tea;)
