Hi I have been on Disability Benifit since 1998 until two years ago when I changed over to Invalidity Pension. I was call by a medical accesser two weeks ago and was told I was fit for work:mad: I was told I can appeal this. I have went to social to see what I am entitled to until the appeal is over. They said I cant draw UB as my stamps have run out. Gave me a form to fill out for UA. I did not put down on the form what type of work I am looking for as I am not looking for work as I have a very bad injury. The lady at the counter said I have to put down something! Went back to doc he said I can make a frest claim for DB. Just wondering will I be able to make this claim when I was not allowed to claim UB due to my stamps being gone:confused: My wife works 20 hrs a week and gets some FIS. Her wages from employment would be around 250 a week. Sorry for such a long question.

Illness Benefit uses slightly different rules when it comes to qualifying for Benefit.

If you have lodged an appeal against the Dept's decision, you can approch a CWO for help.

But AFAIK (and i could be wrong) if you are appealing the medical disallowance, then you can make a claim for Jobseekers allowance.

Thanks for that OmeGar! But what do you mean by AFAIK?

Sorry, i was covering myself there. AFAIK -> As Far As I Know.

Basically i have not had much experience with illness benefit, invalidity pension or disability allowance. i am just plying knowledge i have in the appeals process and other Schemes.

Also my experiences are about 2 years out of date, and there have been major changes in some parts of the dept.

If you are appealing a medical referee decision you do not have to be looking for work while waiting on the outcome - the staff member was incorrect in telling you to just write down anything.
If you do not have enough credits for jobseekers benefit you won't have enough for illness benefit. You can go to community welfare officer for payment while waiting but They will probably want you to have some sort of claim open with social welfare.

cAr0l thanks for that! That what I thought that I should not have to write down what work I was looking for. I had already written in where it asked that question that I was appealing Invalidity Pension. And what I cannot understand why I had enought credits on to get Invalidity Pension and not UB.

My doctor gave me a cert yesterday to send in to social. He also gave me a claim for for illness /injury benefit.

Just wondering should I fill this up as I have filled up a claim form for UA and gave it in.

Anyone ever in the same situation????

I am really confused what to do with my claim for Illness Bennefit that my doctor gave me as I have sent in my claim for JA which I was told to do when I went to social to see what I was entitled to when I was cut of my Invalidity Pension. Can anyone give me some advice please:confused:
