:confused:Basically been looking for work for approx 6 months and I am getting no where. I am checking newspapers, all the job websites and I have still not managed to get one interview.

As we were made redundant our company had a company come into us for two days to run through cv presentation, cover letters etc and I am following these guidelines. The company did our CV's for us and I think the lay out is excellent, it looks very professional so I don't think that is the problem.

Most of the jobs on the websites are through recruitment agencies and from my experience and the thread above they all seem to be rubbish. Eg. I applied for a job last night that was only posted up yest and at 9.05am I received an email to say 'due to high volume you have been unsuccessful', was my CV even checked??

So I am just wondering from experience, if anyone has advice on where else I can look? Do you think sending out cover letters with CV's would be worth the paper and stamps?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I am now sick of recruitment agencies and would rather stear clear of them but feel if I don't apply through them I could be missing out on a potential job.

Where possible apply directly through the employers, alot of employers these days don't use agencies. You could try emailing companies your CV speculatively, most websites will give details of who to contact.

The problem could be your cover letter and CV.

Do you tailor your cover letter for each job?
Have you got someone to review your CV for mistakes?
