Can't give an help, but I would have given anything to have had this subject in school. Studies political geography in Uni and loved it.

'Politics and Society' is in the pipeline, but I don't think a timeframe has been set yet. Someone in the NCCA might have a better idea.

with money being tight, don't hold your breath. Email the NCCA, they will tell you. Remember computer science still hasn't seen light of day and with teacher numbers restricted, schools won't want to take it on.

OP, I wouldn't base my choice of degree subjects on the possibility of a subject being introduced at some stage in the future. Remember that you have the PGDE to get yet, if that's the path you're hoping to take. Would Politics be any good to you in a plan B career? If so, it may be worth pursuing. Otherwise, English & Maths are good solid, core subjects that will get you a job.

If this subject is introduced, it is unlikely that many people will be qualified to teach it. Therefore, having done it in college at all would stand to you.

    Good luck!

Yeah I really like Politics, and the subject is actually Sociology and Political studies, so its perfect if the subject is going to be Politics and Society. I may just look into other careers involving politics as a back up plan. On wikipedia it says that Politics is being introduced in 2010/2011, but it is Wikipedia. Thanks for all the suggestions people.

As Politics was one of my degree subjects I decided to contact the NCCA directly yesterday. Here's the response:

'Thank you for your query re. the Politics and Society syllabus. The draft syllabus has just been the subject of a consultation and a report on the consultation process is now available at http://www.ncca.ie/en/Publications_-_SEARCH/Reports/Senior_Cycle_Politics_and_Society_Report_on_the_consultation.pdf.

The syllabus will now undergo changes recommended in the consultation and will be forwarded to the Department of Educations and Skills following that. It is very difficult to say when it might be implemented in school as this will depend on the availability of resources for implementation.

    Kind regards'

Not much there at all. It looks like Politics will continue to be my 'joke' subject.
