    Hi guys,

Just a question on protein shakes, most brands say to drink within 5 minutes of mixing, is it a problem to mix it in the morning and leave it in the bag for gym in the evening, or mix, drink half, and another half later?

Don't add water until you're ready to use it. Drink it as soon as you mix it. Don't mix more than you need.

It will probably turn very lumpy if you leave it for too long.

the whey protein starts to denaturation after a while if the liquid starts to heat up. If you keep it chilled it slows down the denaturation. This also depends on the brand, qaulity and blend,

    Awe crap!
I make mine the night before and leave it in the fridge cause its pretty lumpy if you dont and i like it really cold. Guess i better get used to the lumps! :)

can have all sorts of reactions if left in liquid, simular to boiling veg to long.

Simple solutions. Simply mix in a blender and add a couple of ice cubes to the mix. Or leave your water in the fridge over night, then mix you shake with the cold water when you want it.

    Best Regards,

Just leave the water in the fridge over night and add it to your shake in the morning. If you find it lumpy get one of those protein shakers. My girlfriend got me one and it's brilliant, there's no lumps left at all!!! :D

the point of ingesting protein is to denature it into its constituent amino acids...

though you never what else might be goin on so i'd follow the advice on the packet.

No, you're not being thick. That's exactly what a protein shaker is. You can also get some that have a little stainless steel ball type gizmo in them to help break up the lumps. See http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/blender-bottle-protein-shaker-mixer-/300426300746?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Vitamins_Supplements&hash=item45f2cd8d4a. Also whacking it through a blender will sort out any lumps.

I make smoothie in the morning with whey, natural yoghurt, oats, OJ and banana, drink half it for breakfast and half before the gym at 530. Does that mean the protein is gone to crap by the time im drinking it!!!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭optimistic_

Not completely related, but left a shaker from after the gym in my bag for about four days without washing it.

Had to chuck it out. The f*cking whack out of it was unreal.

its an especially bad spell if you have ram or creatine etc in it.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭Doug Cartel

You could sterilise it, then put some baking powder in it to take away the smell.

Or just chuck it. Personally, even just the memory of that stink is enough to make me gag, and once a shaker has gone bad, it's going to remind me of it every time I see it.

The protein is probably OK, but unless you've got it really well refrigerated, it's going to be loaded with bacteria.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

I find if you leave the lid of the shaker open there is no megastink. I'm not sure whether the accumulating gases from the bacteria encourages more bacterial growth or whether the air constantly escaping prevents the stinkifying of the plastic. Either way after a rinse out i leave the shaker open over night and it doesn't tend to stink.

hey guys just wondering if anybody has tried the new maxitone range, particular the scupltress shakes and has any feedback on them...i have just switched from nutrition x- slender pro to these and i have say for the first time ever i actually like my protein shake, but don't want to bother wasting my time and money if they are no good.

any advice will be appreciated thanks.

I just started using Maxitone Definity and I have to say the taste is soooooo much better than the last cheaper protein that I used. I got the chocolate flavour and it's yummy- it doesn't have that powdery taste at all and I only have to shake it for a few seconds and there's no lumps, again, not like the last cheaper one I used. BUT, it's expensive, so I don't know what to do, whether to buy it again or not- cause it's a joy to drink but it's not good pocket wise! Whey-quality-wise I can't see how there would be much difference - I reckon the only difference is the good taste. Regardinf the Sculptress- it's a third more expensive than Definity and it's got added Green Tea and CLA, but I take CLA capsules and I drink green tea, so I don't need that one.
BTW- Best thing ever = CLA.
