I know a good warm down is supposed to help you recover after training or competing but what is considered a good warm down?

Say after a football match, what exactly would be considered a good warm down? I've seen teams jog over and back across the pitch and then static stretch. Is that all you've to do?

After lifting weights, what is considered a good warm down?

    Thanks
    Keith

Afters weights I would aim to do 2000m on a rower over 9 mins or cross trainer for 10mins at a steady pace. Both of these work most of your muscle groups and will get the blood flowing around your body. Follow that with stretching, sauna, cold shower, sauna, cold shower.

This adds a good half hour to your gym time but its worth it, it promotes recovery and injury prevention.

At this stage of the game its all about preservation for me,
